In addition to the above, the following information can be found in the product description: "Can you tell me what the difference is between Original Classic and Premium Classic?" br>br>Instead of hard plastic, the Premium Classic Zester Grater by Microplane has a soft touch handle. This line also comes with a variety of handle colors to choose from. With either tool, you'll get the same grating or zesting results.
Yes, it's a semi-hard clear plastic. You may need to lightly squeeze the cover back on the zester over time. I believe it has withstood the test of time.
It won't get stuck in your teeth, but some of the grated zest will stick to the side where the zest comes out, especially if the orange is still quite fresh. It is, however, simple to remove with a fork, so you will not lose any. This is the best orange and lemon zester I've ever used.
I believe it would be difficult; I've used it to grate hard cheese and make lemon zest, and it produces extremely fine pieces. Carrots are probably too fine for this. Also, because it is so sharp and narrow, grating carrots appears to be a risk (you must keep an eye on your finger tips as the food you are grating slides around a little).

Excellent microplane zester with a razor-sharp edge. I really like the rubberized "feet" on the bottom that prevent it from scratching the surface you're using it to grate on. Hard cheeses and zests are no match for it. This little beauty is frequently at the table because we love our freshly grated Asiago over homemade pasta. br>br>However, I can't give it five stars because of one minor flaw. It accumulated on the underside of the zester today when I used it to grate lime zest, as it does with many food items. I wiped it off into the bowl with my index finger, not expecting a problem. YOWWWww! The zester's sides, which curve around to the back, were not completed. One of them cut the end knuckle of my index finger with a very nasty slice. The last brand of microplane zester I used worked perfectly, so I never considered that this could be an issue. In the future, I'll make sure to dislodge the grated item with a pastry brush or the tip of a dinner knife. It was a valuable lesson.
I'm a member of Cooks Illustrated online, and I always look at their equipment reviews before buying anything for my kitchen. I've had microplanes before, and I've given them as gifts as well. One or two should be present in every household. This is the one that Cooks Illustrated recommended, "Buy the Winner," so it's a good fit for me. br>It's ESSENTIAL that you keep the hard plastic sleeve on it; otherwise, it may bend and break in the utensil drawer - Others in my kitchen, on the other hand, don't always get the memo. After using it, wash it right away and keep it away from anything else until the plastic sleeve protector is on it.
This is far too fine; it turns ginger into mush and necessitates a lot of rubbing to complete the process. It lacks the necessary pungency to penetrate a lemon peel. I also purchased the Microplane 38000 model, which is labeled "coarse," and it works flawlessly and produces excellent small shreds. This one is a huge letdown. $15 was squandered.
Years ago, I purchased a Microplane and enjoyed it immensely. I told my mother about it, and I went out and bought her what I thought was the same product. Hers would not grate anything, she told me. When I tried it out, I discovered that the tines were completely flat and thus useless, as well as being extremely easy to bend. Hers had a different plastic cover than mine, and instead of "Made in USA" on the blade, as mine does and as shown on the website, hers said "Stainless Steel. " Be wary of the buyer!.
br>br>If you don't use your zester very often, it's easy to settle for any old zester or to keep using your old dull one. How much of a difference is there, for example? However, I am convinced that the higher the quality of the tool, the more likely you will use it, and the Microplane 46220 meets that criteria. I'm pretty sure this is the last zester I'll ever need. It's a good product. Dishwasher safe and fully functional, this piece is made of surgical stainless steel. It has a durable plastic cover that can be washed by hand. This zester/grater is great for nutmeg and other hard spices, as well as cold chocolate, hard cheeses, citrus, ginger, and garlic. It has a nice, comfortable grip and a nice, comfortable feel in the hand. Foods are properly zested rather than torn or shredded thanks to the grate's sharpness. I'd buy this again because it's so much more fun to use a beautiful, high-quality tool than it is to make do with a subpar product. Please click the "yes" button below if you found this review to be helpful. Thank you for your time and consideration, and good luck with your zesting!.
Prior to using the Microplane, I had only used cheap graters that could be found for a few dollars at places like TJ Maxx. I was hesitant to spend more than $10 on a grater because of this. However, after my previous grater broke down, I decided to take the plunge and purchase this item. The packaging was adequate, and the delivery was on time. I used a wedge of Parmigiano-Reggiano to garnish a tomato soup I was making for the first time. That first grate is still fresh in my mind. Smooth, abundant, and uncomplicated. This may seem exaggerated, but for someone who had previously only used cheap graters, it was a revelation. it was an eye-opening experience Normally, it would take me at least 15 minutes to complete something that would normally take me at least 15 minutes to complete With one full swipe of the Microplane, 20 grates were easily removed. I had completely forgotten about the soup at that point and continued to grate in awe, leaving me with far more cheese than I needed. This should give you an idea of how pleased I was with the product; in any case, I highly recommend this grater for its sleek appearance and unquestionable performance! br>br>On a side note, I was initially perplexed by the Microplane's product numbers, but a quick examination revealed that the different X's in 46X20 referred to the product's color; in case anyone else is perplexed, the product is identical!.
Because the blades are nearly parallel to the backing, they are completely useless for zesting. If you press your lemon, ginger, or other citrus fruit into the blades to get a bite, it will turn into mush that will be pushed out the opposite side of the grater. I'm not sure if it's a knockoff or a manufacturing defect, but the product does not work in either case. I replaced the defective 46020 Premium model with a working 38004 Professional model.
