Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
Microplane's ultra sharp grating blades are made in the United States using photo-etched technology. The handle is made of BPA-free plastic.
Zest Citrus: The blade has a unique tooth set that removes the flavorful rind from the citrus fruit while leaving the bitter white pith behind. Vinaigrettes, stir-fries, salads, and baked goods all benefit from the addition of zest.
Grate Parmesan into fluffy mounds that melt quickly and look lovely when serving rustic pasta bowls to friends and family. For a burst of flavor, grate fresh parmesan cheese over eggs, salads, or any dish.
True stainless steel is magnetic, so this item can be hung on your magnetic knife strip. Surgical Grade Stainless Steel: this material stays rust-free and maintains sharpness over time.
Dishwasher safe: To clean the tool, simply rinse it after each use. To clean out hard-to-reach particles, use a kitchen brush on the underside of the blade. You can put the zester/grater in the dishwasher as well.

Questions & Answers

What is the difference between a traditional grater and a Premium grater?

The premium grater is a more modern version of the classic, with non-stick surfaces. end tabs that scratch and a soft-touch finish touch handle with a variety of colors

What does this have to do with nutmeg grating? I see they also make a spice grater, but it appears to be smaller and less multi-functional. This one serves a different purpose. ?

The Microplane spice grater you're referring to is one that I own. Microplane Premium Black Spice Grater (46016). (The retail price is ten dollars, and the wholesale price is nine dollars.) 95 today. ) I prefer it to the 40020 spice grater because it finely grates spices like nutmeg, allowing the flavor to be released and distributed evenly in a recipe. A spice grater does not need to be long or large. In fact, the number 46016 is rounded to ensure that whatever you're grating stays in the grater and can be poured out the end where you want it. I don't think you're going to cut your fingers. Never use anything greasy or wet on it, such as cheese, because the fine grate makes cleaning sticky foods that weren't meant to be used on it difficult. When working with small items like whole nutmeg and cinnamon sticks, the cutting edges of the spice grater don't stick out as much, which makes it feel safer. I'm not sure I'd use the spice grater 46016 on nut meats or fresh ginger for the same reasons I wouldn't use it on cheese. It appears to be designed solely as a dry spice grater to me. br>If you want to store a few nutmegs and only use the grater for small, dry spices, you could look for a stainless steel one like the one I found eons ago at Crate and Barrel. It's essentially a cup with a grate on top of it. When I'm not using it, the nutmeg pod from which I just cut a piece remains in the cup. It's very similar to the Microplane Grate and Shake Nutmeg Grinder/Grater, Black, offered on Amazon, which can also hold a partially used nutmeg pod for the next time: Microplane Grate and Shake Nutmeg Grinder/Grater, Black. C, I just checked. The ss version of the Microplane mentioned above is no longer available at B. At another location, I have a Microplane cup and top model; It works fine, fits easily in a drawer, and there's nothing sharp to snag you in there, but the lid on the one I have won't stay on very well. br>The answer to your question depends on whether you value having one tool that does a decent job for a variety of tasks or having two tools that specialize better: One for larger grates that can be used on fresh ginger and cheese, and another for making the most of your fresh nutmeg nut and other dry spices (for example: a pinch of cinnamon) With no regrets, I went with the second option of two tools. The Microplane 40001 Stainless Steel Zester is an inexpensive and simple option if you're looking for a fine grater that can be used on all of the items discussed. Takes up almost no space in a drawer or dishwasher, comes with a protective hard plastic sleeve for safe storage, and is dishwasher safe. The only drawback is the lack of a handle, which I've never had an issue with before. It's currently about a dollar less expensive than the model 40020. The 40020 sells for $1 less at retail than this one. I got mine as a gift with a Cooks Illustrated subscription from Am Test Kitchen years ago. br>Another brand that can be used to replace the Microplane 40020 on this page is (excuse the lengthy description): Microzest Premium Grater is a grater made by Microzest. Zester - Bonus Recipes from a Professional Kitchen Tool Citrus, Spice, Carrot, Vegetables, Fruits - Cheese, Lemon, Ginger, Garlic, Nutmeg, Citrus, Spice, Citrus, Spice, Carrot, Vegetables, Fruits Stainless Steel Safety Cover with a Sharp Look. Retail: 97, 13. 97 today. It has a safety cover and is non-stick, unlike the Microplane 40020 on this page. If you're grating smaller items like nutmeg, add rubber tips to the end to protect your counter top. It costs a little more than the Microplane model shown here. Keep in mind that this grater is also available in a premium version from Microplane: Microplane 46020 Premium Black Zester/Grater, which comes with a safety cover and a metal band connecting the grating and soft-grip parts. The grip handle, as well as the bottom protective tips, are available in a variety of attractive kitchen-themed colors. 16 dollars for a pair of colors that match. (14. Today is my 60th birthday.) To give you a sense of scale, I've included what Amazon considers full retail. Prices on Amazon fluctuate from day to day, as regular Amazon customers are aware. When you're serious about shopping, you should double-check what each of these is offering on that particular day. br>Best of luck with your decisions. If you frequently use star anise, cinnamon, fresh nutmeg pods, and other powdered spices, I believe the best way to ensure they're fresh and flavorful is to invest in a grater dedicated to them. Aside from the ones I mentioned, there are a few more to think about. Choose one of the four items I mentioned above in terms of a blade that can handle finely grated hard cheese, fresh ginger, and garlic: four different Microplanes with progressively better features, or a single other brand that appears to be popular. Unless you absolutely need a handle, I believe the simple ten-dollar 40001 will suffice. Not just the ones made for spices, but all five graters are great for zest.

How long do you think one of these will last if it's used every day?

Mine has been in my possession for more than four years. On a regular basis, I even put it in the dishwasher. It's also moved three times. It continues to function flawlessly. Mine should last for a long time. It's worth noting that I only use mine twice a week.

Has anyone used it to grate garlic? Is it going to shred it or turn it into a liquid mess?

Garlic is finely grated into tiny shreds by this device. It's simple to use and quick. I bang it on the edge to get rid of as much garlic as possible, then wipe in the opposite direction to get rid of what's left. However, I take great care not to grate my fingers while doing so. This is a razor-sharp piece of writing. I hope this information is useful.

Maybe it's a forgery
3/5

My mother says: This zester was purchased for my husband by both my mother-in-law and me, both from Amazon. Between the two, there were distinct differences. Hers had a sheath attached to it. It was a little bit thicker, and the "made in USA" was a little different. The most significant difference, however, was that mine was extremely dull. You couldn't put a finger against hers because it was so sharp. I'm not sure how two products made by the same company and bearing the same model number can be so dissimilar. I'm only guessing that the item I got was a fake. It's quite alarming. in the event that my mother- If my wife hadn't bought the same item, I would have assumed it was a low-quality item, and this kind of thinking makes me lose faith in Amazon.

The listing is a forgery
3/5

The listing for this item is a forgery. This exact order (actual Microplane) was purchased in 2009, and it has shaved and lasted for nearly ten years. MICROPLANE was written on the handle, along with the patent number. The replacement I received in May, which claims to be mciroplane and features a banner on Amazon that says "You purchased this item on XX/XX/2009," is NOT microplane and is far inferior to the original, albeit aged and shopworn product I bought back in the day. Whatever you run across these blades, including your knuckles, is torn and crumbled rather than cut. They aren't as sharp as my now 10-year-old ones. year- However, they are far more likely to result in trips to the emergency room than the old rasp. There is no mention of "microplane" on the new item's handle, and there is no patent number. I'm not sure what items on Amazon are currently being shipped by the Microplane brand, but it certainly isn't this one, so move on. There isn't much to see.

Previous versions' quality has deteriorated, or the item is a knockoff
3/5

I've had one of these for a long time and it's worn out, so I ordered another to replace it. Despite the fact that it is the same "microplane" brand, the new one has a hard, cheap plastic handle rather than the soft rubber handle of the previous one. Also, the new one lacks the rubber grip on the bottom that allows it to rest securely against your cutting board. Also, the sheath was missing. I'm returning this because the rubber bottom and sheath were both mentioned in the feature details. It's possible that it's a knockoff of the Microplane brand.

Materials that are of poor quality and are difficult to work with
3/5

This Microplane is a pathetic piece of equipment. It's flimsy, the inside edges are sharper than they should be, cutting your finger easily if you're cleaning the inside, and the grating teeth are recessed, making grating less effective and more difficult. I bought this to replace an old Microplane, and it is far inferior to the one I had before. THIS IS NOT A GOOD ITEM TO BUY. Upgrading to a higher-quality product is a good idea. If you've ever used a similar grater, I guarantee you'll be disappointed with this one.

That's exactly what it is! For years, I've been perplexed as to why anyone would purchase a zester
5/5

Why store another single-use item when I already have a box grater for zesting citrus? What is the function of this utensil? So when I had to make a recipe that called for 1/2 cup of zest and I knew how long it would take me to grate 1 Tb on my box grater, I decided to go for it. And oh my goodness, am I glad I did! Putting a box grater up against this is like putting a golf cart up against a Ferrari! There's no need to apply any pressure because this is extremely sharp. It simply rakes fine, tiny strips from the surface of the lemon/orange/lime/grapefruit. Knowing that if you want a finer zest, just add a few more pulses to your food processor. I have a small processor that I use solely for spices, and it worked just fine. Because the recipe was sweet, I put a couple tablespoons of sugar in the processor to keep the zest from sticking to the blades. It was a cinch to use. br>br>Because the cutters on this puppy are extremely sharp, it comes with a guard that you can store in your gadget drawer to protect your fingers from cuts, and cleanup is a breeze if you keep an old, sanitized toothbrush by your sink. br>br>I had a quarter of a lemon that I needed to juice, and I thought to myself, "Darn!" as I do all too often. Before cutting the lemon, I wish I had zested it first. "I took the zester to that small, squeezed quarter, not wanting to throw it away. " The microplane did its job flawlessly! If you have a box grater, try it out. I was able to extract the zest and store it in a ziplock baggie in the fridge for later use. I'm not sure what I'd do if I hadn't had this gadget for the past 50 years of cooking. That's what I've done: I've squandered a lot of time and have skinned my knuckles.

COUNTERFEITING is a term used to describe a situation in which something Otherwise, Microplane's quality has deteriorated significantly
3/5

I used to have a (real) Microplane that lasted for years but eventually became dull. This "Microplane" didn't come with a sheath and was dull right out of the box. This one is actually sharper than my old, dull one. When it didn't come with a sheath, I should've been suspicious.

In just a few minutes, you'll have a pile of fluffy zest! After many years of making lemon bars, I can confidently say that this is by far the best tool I've ever used
5/5

I like how the rind appears to be shaved rather than torn. It was almost effortless to remove the zest from eight lemons - It was almost amusing, to be honest. That, of course, means it's a razor-sharp object. I was able to lightly scuff my hand. There was no damage, but I would have hurt myself if I had to apply more force because the tool was ineffective. Before opening the package, I looked for the patent number, which I found on the blade. It's a genuine product. This zester/grater is incredible! br>Would make a wonderful gift for anyone who enjoys making things from scratch in the kitchen. I'm not sure why it took so long for me to figure this out. I'm not going to use any other.

FRAUD! This is not a genuine Microplane item
3/5

Imitation at its most basic! When this one arrived, we were taken aback. We had a Microplane grater for years and loved it, so when it broke, we bought another, this one. It came across as cheap and deceptive right away: In contrast to the rubber-coated handle, the handle is made of a low-cost, low-level plastic mold. Without the metal ring holder at the handle's tip, this is a coated original product. In comparison to the original, the grater itself feels low-level and lacks sharpness. We went to the store and purchased a brand new original. What a stark contrast! as evidenced by the photographs (the original - Obviously - (It's the white printing that's causing the problem). Amazon should be ashamed for allowing such shady business practices. The cost – in addition - was nearly twice as big as the original. DON'T GET YOUR HANDS ON IT!.
