Yikes. not prior to zesting
I haven't tried it, but I'm confident it could work.
I bought the Extra Course, and the grate holes are just over 1/4 inch in diameter.

A similar hand-held grater was ordered to be replaced. This one, unfortunately, did not pan out. It's more of a zester than anything else. The grate has a very shallow depth. For example, grating cheese takes a long time and results in thin, curly pieces. That's something I already have a grater for, and it wasn't what I was looking for. I expected it to grate larger pieces based on the image and the size of the holes. I'm planning to donate it to Goodwill and replace it with something else.
I'm not sure if I got a bad one, but I ordered the basic version rather than the course or extra course. I should have chosen one of the more courser versions because zesting a lemon takes a lot of pressure. I believe this unit was either defective or the little metal tabs should have been bent to a slightly more aggressive angle, because it barely zests at all unless you apply extreme pressure, which isn't practical for long-term use.
After my 8-year-old cheap XOXO microplane finally broke, I decided to "upgrade. " Nothing grates on him - Garlic, lemon rinds, and nutmeg are not among the ingredients. I'm not sure if the metal part isn't curved enough to allow the metal scales to protrude sufficiently, or if it's just poorly made. It's complete nonsense. I bought a new XOXO microplane from Target.
The interface is straightforward. I like the storage shield because it protects it from small hands. When compared to a box grater, this one takes up less space. I am pleased with my purchase:.
I bought this because I've been happy with the Amazon Basics line, and while it does a decent job zesting (which is why I bought it in the first place), I'm disappointed with how well it works in practice. The original Microplane has pronounced lips on the edges that allow you to grate or zest a large amount of food. There are no lips on this, so you won't have to zest into a big container or empty it all the time. When I ordered it, I didn't consider the difference, but it is clearly a different design. Otherwise, it appears to be in good working order. The grip is pleasant to hold, and the grating is fairly fine.
I've been using it primarily to grate cheeses. It's been working well so far. br>br>To clean it, I simply use a sponge in the opposite direction that the sponge would grate, and it cleans up easily. br>br>Holding the tool is fairly comfortable; the only time I've had trouble was when grating a very large object, which was not due to the tool.
I bought this to make hash browns, and my expectation was that the block would produce thick shreds of potato and cheese. The holes for grating, on the other hand, are quite small. If not, use a grater that is shallower than a regular grater. This is not the grater to get if you want a thick, Extra Coarse grater; However, if you want a grater with larger shreds, this is the one to get. br>br>The item is quite sturdy and does not move when grating things, so it is well made; however, it is not as thick as "Extra Coarse. ".
br>br>I use this cheese grater to save money when purchasing cheese from the store, and it's a lot easier than buying pre-shredded cheese. br>br>Having this cheese grater and purchasing $10 pound bricks of Cabot Cheese is fantastic! It's simple to maintain and operate. br>br> It serves two purposes for me. three times a day is a good rule of thumb to follow.
