It's a bit of a mixed bag for me with this straight edge. As soon as I opened it, I laid it straight on several precision machined flat surfaces in my shop to ensure it was straight. The information is accurate and straight to the point. The only disappointment I have is that the face surfaces are quite rough and have On the ends were also noticed sharp burrs left over after the drying process. There are some things about the finish that don't seem to be up to par with my other Starrett tools -- something I was expecting to see better. This is especially true when you consider how much these cost. I was also under the impression that the packaging was rather pathetic - the piece had been bound to a thin pine board with rubber bands and placed in a container that was way too big and without.
It is a disappointment to see Starret do this.
There are two things about it steel and straightness. This is fine with me.
In fact, I received a 24" metal ruler instead of the 385-inch one A total of 24 items have been It is possible that you will not get what you were hoping for if you order this.
The Starrett straightedge should be the gold standard of straightness, but my 12" straightedge started out perfectly and then warped along the length so badly that it became I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, so that straightedge was exposed to subzero temperatures Several years have passed with freezing temperatures in my workshop, but I'm still unable to believe that those temperatures caused that metal to warp in that profound a way. I haven't used any of my other tools- It's a lie A list of the planes that were bought by Nielsen Neither of the tools have been affected in the slightest. I have yet to hear back from Starrett on how and why this happened, but now I am inclined to question whether this tool is really what it is marketed I'm sorry to hear that, but this straightedge is seriously warped. This is unbelievable.
