It rusts like crazybr>I didn't even put it near water and I live in California, not Floridabr>Made of very heavy thick metal that rustsbr>not stainless steel or aluminumbr>br>br>Update: They offered me $30 to remove or delete my review, which I believe is unethical.
This square is fantastic. This is one I'm glad I bought. It reminds me of the quality that used to be associated with the United States of America. On one side, the graduations are 1/8 and 1/12 ths, while on the other, they are millimeters. They are all crisp and clear, having been "stamped" or "rolled" into the steel by a press. The finish is protected by a clear coat. I ordered a johnson square but had to return it because the graduation markings on the metal had deep scratches and gouges. VINCA is my first choice.
It's the right size and weight, and the markings are etched. However, as others have stated, this square has a coating that detracts from its appearance. It's packaged in a vinyl case. As soon as I removed the sleeve, I noticed that the square's coating has an odd inconsistent discoloration that makes it appear old and impairs text readability. Check out the images. This isn't what you'd expect from something new. I have yet to attempt to remove it.
Steel Framing Square is a tough square to work with. The square is made of steel and has enough weight to keep it from shifting. The markings are stamped and protected from rust with an epoxy finish, which leaves a gleaming smooth surface that reflects light, and blackening the marks would have improved visibility. The stamped markings aren't as important to me because I use it primarily as a guide for setting cuts, but the numbers are large and easy to read in good lighting. True alignment is what I require in a square, and my Vinca square meets this requirement admirably. It's a good value for money standard framing square.
Great quality and ideal for everyday use as well as special occasions. When I'm sewing, I mostly use it to measure and cut fabric. I am extremely pleased with my purchase.
For my purposes, it's accurate enough. It didn't have any gaps when compared to a well-known good square. When using an electronic square, the result is 89. 95- 00 Deg. It wasn't perfectly flat when I put it on a granite counter. To straighten it, I put it in a vise, and it was surprisingly difficult to untangle. The metal has a small spring in it, which is a good thing, so you can bend it by hand. The edges are a little rough. I lapped it on medium grit sandpaper to remove the sharp edges, which left a bit of a wavy pencil line. The anti- The rust coating is a little thick, but it's fine if you scrape it off the tougue and blade's edges. 1/2 star deducted for a slight bend and slightly rough edges, both of which are easily fixed. It's highly suggested!.
The square has a nice size. The "coating," on the other hand, makes the square too shiny, causing lights in my shop to reflect off of it, making it difficult to read. Also, if you work outside and leave it out in the heat for a while, it will stick to whatever it is laying on. I'm looking for some advice on how to get rid of the coating.
When it comes to ordering from Amazon, you never know what you'll get. I was expecting something flimsy, but what I got was far superior. This L frame is strong enough to not easily bend out of shape. Aside from that, it accomplishes its goal.
