I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it's a great tool. It was money well spent.
Swanson produces a gray metal speed square in both 7" and 12" sizes. The high visibility orange one is the one I have on my workbench.

It was a pain to cut laminated shingles square and to exact lengths. The 12" fence on the Speedlight makes it a lot easier. The square can be used to guide a saw's base plate when working with lumber. br>br>Because I keep putting the square down, the color makes it easier to find when I need it. br>br>On YouTube, a carpenter demonstrated a speedquare with black markings similar to mine. He claimed to have smeared acrylic paint on the surface before wiping it away with a cloth. It was not an easy task for me. To paint the straight grooves, I used a toothpick and a cotton swab, and to dab paint into the characters, I used a cotton swab. Wiping with a damp cloth made a mess, so I learned to blot the paint first with toilet paper, which was well worth the effort. This square will show me the pitch of a roof if I have a few feet of small string in my pocket, weighted at one end. I turn the square at the rake so that the fence is toward the peak and the ruled side is along the roof or fascia board; if I suspend the string from the pivot notch, it will show the pitch in degrees or inches in 12 inches. br>br>There is an indentation on the upper "CL" mark to help guide a drill bit. I made a hole big enough for my pocket plumb line with a 1/16" bit, and the hypotenuse is level when I suspend it from the hole and adjust the square so that the lower CL mark lines up with the string, as shown in the second photo. br>br>Even if I don't have a pocket plumb line, suspending it by the diamond hole, as shown in the first photo, will show me vertical and horizontal.
Numbers and slash marks could be easier to read if they were a different color, which would be even better. The only disadvantage is that this is the only disadvantage. As a result, the rating of four stars is justified. But I fixed it by using a fine line black magic marker to highlight the slash marks. I'm very pleased!.
It has a square shape. However, the markings are difficult to read, and I didn't want to waste time coloring them in when I could just buy one that I could read for about the same price; also, the orange color almost stings my eyes, which is a personal preference. It irritates me to look at it. It makes it simple to find, but it was driving me insane just sitting there. However, I'm confident that the majority of people will not have that issue. I think it's possible that I have sensitive eyes. In any case, I favor the hi-res version. viz. yellow or plain al, blue, or black, with a good place to keep it so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
This square's 12" size, rugged construction, and accuracy are all things I appreciate. The only minor quibble I have is that because the graduations and lettering are cast in the same color as the square, they are a little harder to see. It's simple to fix with an indelible marker, but it takes some time. br>This square can also be used as a dimensional lumber saw guide.
I assumed that because it was made of plastic/polymer, it would be not only cheap, but also poorly constructed. That is not the case, as I am happy to report. I double-checked it against some other squares in my collection, including some high-end Starret carpenter squares, and it's spot on. br>br>These offer a lot of bang for your buck, and the nice thing about them is that they're super bright, making them easy to find, and replacing them isn't too expensive. Overall, this is a fantastic deal.
This square is far superior to the Empire square I had previously. Although the 'composite' is made of a hard material, it is still relatively light. When you need to grab a square quickly, the color of the square makes it easy to find.
Well- It's well-designed and appears to be durable. I love my job as a carpenter!.
Measurements are extremely precise and accurate. Because it's difficult to read orange on orange, I despise that print color. To get the black markings, I sprayed my piece and then wiped away the excess paint. Love it. It is necessary to purchase.
Not even a hike in the woods will suffice. Also, anyone attempting to flee with their square should be aware that aliens can see it from space. This is the color I'd like to see on all of my tools. It's made of thick, durable plastic. br> Because the numbers and lines are embossed, they will never wear off or be wiped away. Strong, but not too heavy. There are no sharp edges like on metal ones. These BRIGHT NEON ORANGE squares are a must-have for any handyman.
