I use a thicker round pencil rather than a hexagonal one. Perhaps a few wraps of electrical tape will suffice.
Yes, with the help of two pins.
Two of these are in my possession. The holes are approximately 1/4 inch in diameter with a /- tolerance. The holes in one are a slightly tight fit for a 1/4 inch dowel pin, while the ones in the other are a perfect fit. It comes with a total of 0 pins. 245
Yes, you certainly can. I mostly use it to double-check that tools are square. For assembly and cutting work, I have a set of three sizes of machinist squares.

I was disappointed when I received this adorable little square, but I'm keeping it. On the outside, it's about two thou off, and on the inside, it's about a thou off, with a small hump on the short leg near the corner. I could try to fix it with stones, but the anodizing would be destroyed. I'll most likely keep it as a quick reference or give it to a woodworking friend. I like the compact size and chose this over some of the excellent steel squares made in the Czech Republic, which are far less expensive, because this one is nice and thick at 5/8" versus 1/4" or less for the steel ones. The centering pins/holes are also useful for marking a good rough centerline. In general, I don't mind if the finish isn't perfect as long as it's usable and free of major flaws - For those who are overly concerned, my blue square did have a couple of those little lighter spots as seen in other reviews, and it was also extremely dark (almost black) without direct decent lighting (kind of a dark indigo but still on the blue side). Even taking into account the cost of living in the United States, this is an excellent value. I was expecting this to be a square-shaped puzzle-type game-type game-type game-type game- Given the very short leg lengths, the shape is square. It's ok. If you need true accuracy, even a "workshop" grade machinist's square will be far better than what I received, and you can get toolmaker's grade for less than half the price of this. I, on the other hand, intend to keep it.
Even when I'm working inside the shop, I have a set of tools with me; You can add one more item to the list: this DFM Small Square. It comes up all the time in woodworking, and you need to "check square," and this item can get the job done with accuracy and usability. It's not a monster to lug around the shop; instead, it fits perfectly in an apron pocket. The tool's quality is exceptional, and it's made in the United States. br>br>An excellent feature of the square is that it allows you to center mark boards using the provided pins. It's quick and easy, and there's no need to measure (because we all know that a 3/4" board isn't always the same as a true 3/4" board). If you need to make piston-fit items, this square can assist you. br>br>I was not compensated for this review; these are my own words, and I am not a paid reviewer. I'm just a small-scale woodworker who appreciates high-quality tools, so I figured I'd write a review to assist you in purchasing something that is worth your money rather than a piece of junk. br>br>Another thing to keep in mind is that I'm going to Amazon to order something. The centering pins were not included in my kit. I contacted the manufacturer, who was extremely helpful and pleasant, and he sent the pins to me free of charge. br>br>I would buy this and other DFM products again in a heartbeat. br>br>Ronnie br>Ronnie br>Ronnie br>Ronnie.
Love it! It's the ideal size for slipping into your pocket or tucking into the corners of small boxes and spaces. It also serves as a useful marking gauge, so it's a win-win situation!.
I used a coupon code to get a discount. They're worth following/subscribing to because DFM offers them on occasion. Even at that price, it's difficult to justify it until you put it to use. Then you'll understand why you require additional supplies. They're not only extremely accurate, but they're also extremely well-made. br>br>These are high-end products, so they're pricey. In the near future, I plan to order more DFM tools!.
So, don't get me wrong, it's a well-made product. I use it for a variety of small tasks, but the center finder was the main reason I bought it. The hole in the middle where the pencil goes in is quite large, which means that when using a mechanical pencil for detailed accuracy, it falls short. Sure, you could use a cheap sharpened pencil that's been ground down to a nub, but that would result in a 2 mm thick line, which I wouldn't consider precise. It works raw for some applications, but I'm disappointed. If DFM sees this, they should check their reviews, as I hope they do. Solid product; however, I wish the hole was much smaller for greater precision. That's all there is to it, guys.
I just received it, and I'm impressed so far. I don't have a square to compare it to, but it passes the pencil test, with corners closed, even when I use a Mitutoyo12 inch scale pressed against the legs to extend the length of the drawn lines. When either leg is placed on a granite inspection plate and a flashlight is shined behind it, no light comes through. The legs also taper out evenly from end to end, with no discernible taper. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
This was given to my grandfather as a gift. It'll turn out fantastically. He enjoys doing custom woodwork and is passionate about it. Only problem is that I'm a machinist, and most people will tell you to "don't forget to debur your parts. " I had to ream a couple of the holes to remove internal burrs that were preventing the pins from sliding through. The rest of it is fantastic!.
I like the color as well. I've been looking for a small, dependable square that won't bend or go out of square while being tossed around in my shop apron (or when my 8-year-old decides it'll be useful as a ruler for a school project). The build quality is excellent, the color is consistent throughout the tool (no blotching or blemishes), and the fact that it doubles as a center finder for small/narrow boards is a huge bonus (the pencil hole even fits a regular 2 Ticonderoga pencil, no special mechanical pencil required). Oh, and as a TCU fan, I think the purple is fantastic (as will fans of LSU, KState, Washington, East Carolina, and Northwestern).
