These did, for example. In the year 1988, I bought my first Mitutoyo tool. That 6" dial indicator is still with me, and it works just as well and as accurately as it did when it was new. The Starrett and Mitutoyo tools in my Gerstner tool chest are roughly equal. Some of the Starrett items date from the 1940s. However, all of Mitutoyo's recent work is Mitutoyo. Why? The cost-quality ratio appears to be consistent, despite the fact that it is not cheap. This set was purchased to measure the cylinder bore on small displacement air-cooled engines. The tools have a nice feel to them, are smooth to operate, and have good locking, making them easy to use with accuracy for a beginner (like my students). I bought a larger set from a "big box" retailer that sells a variety of China-made tools. They don't lock together well, and the two "arms" feel "gritty" when extended. Yes, they were nearly 80% less expensive, but if you make a living with the tools, the accuracy and not having to worry about quality stuff like Mitutoyo gauges will reward you in the long run%.
I'm not a professional machinist, but these gages perform admirably when it comes to measuring bore diameters. They take a little getting used to, but once you do, they're a breeze to use. View some instructional videos to learn how to use them properly.
This instrument worked extremely well with my digital micrometer when I needed to measure the inside of small holes. I repeated the same measurement several times and was satisfied that I had obtained the information I required.
I'm only now getting the hang of using these. I saw a few videos on YouTube of machinists using them and knew I had to get some. Satin Chrome is also a favorite of mine.
Smoothness and polish were what I expected from this brand. They'll most likely become more comfortable as time passes. That means I'll waste time taking excessively multiple measurements over years when I should be taking them apart and honing the burrs off them right now. I wasn't impressed, and I wouldn't recommend it.
The contacts have a smooth and squeaky surface finish. There haven't been any problems yet.
It accomplishes its goal. These are the ones I recommend.
They're a little clumsy, but they get the job done in the end.
