One of the tools is no longer functional. There is a serious lack of quality control. When I first got this set, I made the mistake of opening it and trying out a few of the smaller ones. Everything appeared to be in working order, so I stuffed them into my toolbox and considered it a good buy. I used the set's largest piece for the first time a few days ago and discovered that the plungers were not properly sized and fell out of the T frame right away. The plunger and springs behind it shot right out of the tool when the thumb screw refused to tighten. And since it's been more than 30 days, I don't think I'll be able to get the broken piece replaced unless the seller is sympathetic to my dissatisfaction with their poor quality control. So beware: you're paying for six pieces, but there's a good chance you'll only get a few functional tools rather than a complete set.
I did spend 15 minutes smoothing/polishing rough edges in the threads, spreader pins, and ball ends, as expected (this is what sets these apart from much more expensive options). ) But it was well worth the effort, as it saved me a lot of money and resulted in repeatable measurements, as long as I was careful with my technique. When it comes to that, practice makes perfect!.
Straight from Mao's massive mountain of rock candy. Industrial equipment grows on trees in this location. These snap bore gauges aren't nearly as bad as they appear. You won't trust them to a tenth, but for an engine rebuild or a thorough inspection of the inside diameter of your jam (so the jam lady doesn't rip you off on the jam prices), you can. )br>br>10/10 one-time use tool.
The sliding mechanism has a small amount of lateral play that is mostly eliminated when the stop is tightened. Based on that, I'd say they're good for 1/1000" accuracy, but not so much for 1/10000".
I couldn't get the shade to attach to the new clips on my first attempt. The original clips worked by inserting the clip's lip into the shade header and then tilting the back up to secure it. The new clips are installed by pressing the header into the clip while keeping it level from front to back and pushing it straight back. This was extremely difficult and awkward, and the price of these clips, given what they do, is astronomical.
What do you mean by precision? I mean, you might be able to get decent results with this gage set, but every time you try to move the telescoping portion in or out, it feels like you're grinding pieces. It doesn't feel like 'precision,' but rather like a lack of tolerances.
Buy a real bore caliper if you need one more than once in a blue moon. When I took the smallest one out of the package, it disintegrated, and the spring and one tip flew away. What would you expect for the price?.
Each of the six gauges compresses and tightens in a consistent manner. There are smooth radius ends on all of the radiuses. They're fine for what they're supposed to be used for. You'll need to learn how to use this type of gauge correctly, as well as how to use a micrometer to measure the locked gauge. It necessitates a deft touch with a T-handle. To get precise results, use a bore and a micrometer.
