Because a few of them were initially sticky. But after a few rounds of careful back-and-forth, they improved dramatically. Make sure to store these properly, and unless you got a lemon, I'm guessing they'll last a long time for the average home owner/mechanic, machinist, or whatever. br> I haven't tried them yet, but I believe they'll be adequate. Hey, if you want absolute perfection, then quality is the way to go. Then invest in one of the high-end, high-quality brands. And if you work as a full-time machinist, that may be the best option. I wish I'd had them a week ago, when I needed to measure the inside of my truck's rear end rather than improvise something to get by. I would not hesitate to purchase this item again; however, if that situation changes, I will notify you. But keep in mind that I'll be 80 in a few weeks, and my avid wrenching and other activities are nearly over. Good bye.
As with anything, if you buy the cheapest possible version of something, it'll suck, but with some abrasive and lube, you can get them to work for you. I wouldn't trust them on anything critical, even after tuning them up. But, if I'm guessing correctly, you're enraged at the prospect of not getting a starrett for $2.
Until I get them, then after the first use on crankshaft rods and rechecked with a certified precision tool, I will not complain about its made purpose, but if tolerances within the tbar are acceptable, these would be a competitive specific use tool. Thanks.
Shipping was well-packaged, and the storage pouch was well-made. I bought these to check the bore of my cylinder. on a flathead motor from 1939 With the measurements I took, I was able to determine the next steps that needed to be taken. In general, this is a high-quality item.

Not bad, good for homebr>Shops, but for daily or shop use, something a little more commercial in design might work better.
In order to measure cylinders, it must be extremely accurate.
My new set is a little shorter than my old one, but it still works.
