It was clear to me that this was an 8mm shank when I ordered them. I was able to use my 8mm collet perfectly as well. An exact fit is not possible with a 5/16 collet. Considering the shank is laser engraved with 8x8 on it, this is to be expected. The surface area of the cutting blade was exactly 8mm, just as the size of There is definitely no carbide in this steel. It is a light color and lightweight A bit of low quality is not what I would refer to It is nevertheless a reasonable bit if you know what you are getting and for what purpose you are buying it. This is exactly what I used mine for. It worked perfectly. It was a perfect tool for roughing hardwood.

There is a difference between the two descriptions! The measurement here is actually 8mm, not 5/16

I needed the length I wanted but tool chatter got in the way

Small diameter bits of extra long length are very hard to come by. It has that, but the edge finish did not seem quite as smooth as I would have liked. If feed and RPM are tweaked, the finish might be improved but more work must be done at the feed and RPM We were not happy with the result of our standard RPM test.
