Not here. Snow and ice in our area, on the other hand, rarely blows sideways. Only in extreme conditions would I expect that to happen on the windward side. This is a bird and bat screen, not a bug mesh.
The mfr. It claims to be able to hold up to 14"x18" of material. You should be able to use it without difficulty.
I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, but I can assure you that it will not disappoint you. I've had mine for years and it's well worth the money; it still looks good and I don't need any more sweeps.
The hood on mine, which I purchased in 2014, is not removable. I'm not sure why you'd want it to be that way. If necessary, the entire unit can be removed with ease.

This is a very sturdy piece, and I'm impressed with the craftsmanship. However, as many other reviews have stated, the mounting method does not give you confidence that it will stay put in high winds. I live near Phoenix, so we don't get hurricanes, but we do get 80 mph gusts during Monsoon season, and I didn't feel safe relying on the six machine bolts to "pinch" it into place with only the provided hardware. Because Terracotta is a brittle material, and I didn't want to risk shattering my chimney piece, I replaced the two end machine bolts with 5" long ones and drilled a hole all the way through it. The unit can't move upward away from the chimney because of those two bolts, and the other four bolts keep it firmly in place. The end result was a rock-solid mount that gave me more peace of mind.
Metal sheet that is very flexible and thin. Mine was supposed to fit my stack top size, but it didn't. The bolts were too short, so I had to buy cap extenders to extend them. br>br> br>br>I also took the time to paint the gleaming metal with heat-resistant black BBQ paint, because otherwise, this thing will attract every bird in town. br>br>Also. If your stack top is rounded, there will be a gap at each corner. Because the cap is made of extremely bendy metal, tightening the bolts causes it to flare out, limiting the grip. br>br>This is something I'm not sure about. It appears to be overpriced at approximately $100. I'd check to see if they have any warehouse returns, given what it's for. They'll do it, I'm sure.
so so. The 13 x 17-inch model was the one I went with. I'll try to upload some photos of how it looks when it's put together. br>br>1) While these aren't particularly difficult items, it would be nice to have at least a diagram with dimensions before purchasing them. 2) Purchased 2. br>br> Only one bolt was received. I was fortunate enough to have the correct size on hand. br>br>3) The bolts sent have a flat end rather than a pointed end. Mounting chimney caps, according to my understanding, requires the use of pointed end bolts to secure them to the flu. Is it possible that I am mistaken? br>br>4) In light of point 3, this unit's structure is insufficient. As you tighten the bolts against the flu, the sides bend out very easily. Concerns have been raised that these items aren't secure enough to withstand a light breeze. br>br>In general, a nice unit, though I wouldn't expect the drawbacks I've listed above for the price.
When placed on the floor, the cap, which was made of thin metal, made a tinny sound. It did not come with the mounting screws. The cap's weld points were already rusted, indicating that it was made of low-quality stainless steel. In addition, the edges were not well deburred. To handle it safely, I had to put on leather gloves. The dimensions were correct, and the cap resembled the image. Are you getting your money's worth? In my opinion, it's just fine.
The item is both appealing and durable. Bolts pointed into the brick (or, in my case, terra-cotta) should be used in the hardware. To ensure a secure fit, the cotta must be locked in. Some of the metal sides bowed due to the flat bolts. I am satisfied with my purchase in general. All you have to do now is swap out your bolts for pointed ones.
This is a lovely chimney cap that looks great with modern stainless steel trims. I'd buy it again without a second thought. The same (or similar?) thing has happened to me. ) chimney in my neighborhood, and based on the amount of use this winter, I would recommend cleaning the cap after the season is over. Because the cap collects oxidation from soot and your burn, it will eventually turn black and lose its luster unless it is cleaned. Blue Magic is a title I recommend.
Of course, old stone chimneys did not come with caps, but I wanted to keep varmints out because I only use the fireplace once or twice a year. br>br>Arrived on time and fit perfectly on the 13 X 18 flue liner. Stainless steel with a fairly thick gauge. Built to last. br>It did exactly what it said it would do. It will only be seen how long it lasts, but I believe it will.
This is a well-made chimney cap that fits my chimney perfectly. There were a few scratches on the top of the hood, which aren't a big deal because the top isn't visible, but the stainless steel mesh is stunning. If the seller had included the bolts shown in the photo, I would have given it five stars. 1/4"*20*1 was required to be purchased. To secure the cap around my clay flume, I used stainless steel machine screws that were 5" long. Because the bolts ($4) were not included, I'm hoping for a credit from the seller.
