Questions & Answers
There's a "What chimney product is right for me" tool on the Cleverly Solved website that shows you photos of various types of dampers and fireplaces, as well as how to size them.
When the ventless gas logs aren't in use, that is.
Vented gas logs are required by building code to keep the flue open at all times, but most professional installers disable or clip the damper, preventing it from closing completely. The reason for this is to ensure that you do not light the gas log with the damper closed, allowing fumes to back up into the house. If you want to use the Flueblocker, simply turn off the gas logs so that you can't accidentally turn them on while it's being installed. By disabled, I mean that the pilot is out, the gas ball valve is closed, and there is no way to start it without first removing the Flueblocker.
We can't get it tested for an exact R value because R value ratings are limited to windows, doors, and insulation. However, we can compare it to R 13 with an air barrier in terms of performance.
