This chimney is referred to as a "lox-style" chimney. When the chimney is inserted and turned, it is secured to the burner by the three lugs around the base.

This is supposed to withstand fire, but I'm not sure how it cracked when exposed to the heat of a light bulb.

If the chimney is fixed or restricted, it will crack due to the rapid expansion caused by the heat. The lamp quickly heats up. As a result, I'm guessing it's not very good at "dispeling heat."
