On a double-decker bus, we used it. The top of the fireplace/chimney is very wide. During Hurricane Michael, the original cap was blown away. When securely mounted, the 8" inner pipe slides down and the 12" outer pipe is covered. We used 2" sheet metal screws to secure our cap to the stationery pipe, preventing it from blowing off again in high winds. I hope this has been of assistance to you.
It's designed to fit an eight-inch pipe, but I had to cut it down to fit. br>It isn't as simple as it appears. Be ready to change it. Alternatively, hire a pro.
Mr. Barnett, I'm not sure what your chimney setup is like, but here's mine: the triple lined metal flue was housed inside a wood framed "chimney" with a metal cover atop the "chimney chase." A local sheet metal company created a new custom built sheet metal "chase" cover for me. I believe my flue was 13 1/2", so I had the hole in the metal "chase cover" enlarged to 14 1/2" to accommodate me. I also had a transition made to reduce the diameter of the Simpson Duravent from 14 1/2" to 14", which I then crimped to fit inside the 14" diameter Simpson Duravent. I hope this information is useful. Michael U. br>br>Michael U. br>br>Michael U. br>br>M
With about a 3/4" gap, the cap fits over the outside of the chimney pipe. The inside pipe is securely fastened to the outside pipe. Set screws aren't present on mine, but they shouldn't be required under normal circumstances. However, because I live in a hurricane-prone area of Florida, I intend to drill my own holes as a precautionary measure for the next hurricane. BikerDave, FL

I liked the product at first, and when I put it on, I was surprised to find that it could withstand strong winds. The wire mesh around the cap collects creosote, which is a problem. In the last three months, I've had to climb up on the roof three times to clean it out with a wire brush because my stove was smoking like crazy. I usually clean the chimney once or twice a year.
Because the base flexes, it's best to drill pilot holes first, but it's simple to screw on (especially for those of us who live in hurricane or tornado-prone areas). I found out from the previous owner that the last one blew off). Very nice looking; I've lit four fires in the fireplace so far, and everything has gone well.
The product was well-made, and the dimensions were exactly as stated. br>The one thing I didn't like about the instructions was that they assumed you already knew where to caulk it and then proceeded to tell you everything about their entire product line; they were written for professionals.
Three self-tapping screws, some roofing compound, and you're ready to go! Because it has a low profile, it doesn't attract attention.
It was extremely simple to set up! We did it together as two ladies, but a strong man can do it alone!.
The old rusted chimney cap and spark arrestor were replaced with this. The chimney chase cover, as well as a reducer, were made by a local sheet metal shop. I'm going to order another one for another of my rental properties.
As advertised, there is no triple wall. The inner rolled sheet metal will fit an 8-inch tube but will not extend lower than the outer 14-inch sheet metal. The outer wall has a nice screen and cap.
