Questions & Answers
The Draft King chimney caps are designed to be installed directly to an exposed flue tile, with the exception of single flue tiles that do not extend above the crown, which can be installed with the optional Leg Kit (SSLK). If you need more crown coverage, take a look at our BigTop chimney covers.
SSLK is a heavy-duty item that we offer as an option. For chimneys with tile that does not extend above the crown, a heavy-duty stainless steel leg kit is available.

The item appears to be in good condition, but it has several design flaws. For starters, the vertical black steel band at the bottom section with the bolt holes is too short to allow the flat bolt surface to completely touch the upper surface of the standard size flue. As a result, approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of the population is affected. Instead of being in contact with the flue top, two-thirds of the bolt surface is above it. It is entirely correct. Second, the designer's bad judgment was used to choose the location of the bolt holes. That is, the bolts' Flat surfaces must contact the flue's Round surface. My current chimney cap has four holes in the appropriate places, i. e. , on the metal belt's flat sides, so that the flat side of each bolt contacts the flat side of the belt surface. Finally, two of the four bolt holes were made smaller than needed, indicating a manufacturing problem rather than a design flaw.
This product is junk, poorly constructed, and will not withstand even a light breeze. The top of the mountain in Nevada blew off during the first winter storm. There isn't a single thing that can be done to fix it. The wind was blowing at 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. The cover was haphazardly attached to the wire mesh and blew away within 2 hours of the storm starting. br>br>My recommendation is to look for a more superior product.
It had to be returned not because it was defective, but because it wouldn't fit in my chimney. I was taken aback when I discovered that I had been charged $17 and change for UPS shipping. Due to a lack of contact information, it is impossible to contact the seller to dispute the charges. The transaction left me feeling unsatisfied.
When I got it, it was a little beat up, but that's fine; it'll be on my roof, so I won't be staring at it. In order for it to fit properly, I had to use some longer screws that I had on hand. We'll see how well it holds up in the face of a strong wind. For Christmas, I'll be able to light a fire in my fireplace.
This is a fantastic deal! There were plenty of threaded holes for a secure installation. It only came with four mounting bolts, which was a bit disappointing. I chose 8 because it had the holes, and my chimney is in a very windy location, but it's still there thanks to the multiple mounting holes! Construction is solid and heavy. I'd buy it again, and I'd recommend it to everyone!.
This is fantastic. We had it installed on the chimney by our mason. It was a perfect fit. The fact that Draft King makes this size (I believe we got the 4"x8" one?) piqued the mason's interest. If my memory serves me correctly. He claimed he had no idea they made this size and used wooden shims to fit a larger one onto his own chimney. In any case, it's a fantastic product, and the quality speaks for itself. I expect this to last at least as long as I do!.
The cap was ordered for a 13"x17" oval clay chimney pipe, but it was actually 18 3/8" long, which didn't cause any issues. Although the corner mounts are more durable, the screws just touched the pipe's top, so I had to use the lower side holes.
It's even more lovely in person than it appears in the photo. br>br>I would have given it 5 stars if it hadn't arrived with black hand and finger prints on it. I fixed it by rubbing it for half an hour with brasso. It has regained its luster, as if it were a brand new penny. Easy to set up. br>br> It looks fantastic.
