Then I learned how to rehydrate them and they are now growing. Become a member of some FB groups and learn how to make water kefir if you have never done so before. **I found mine worked better when I diluted 1/4 cup organic cane sugar with a quart of spring water mixed with a pinch of Himalayan pink salt and baking soda, 12 raisins, and a half slice of lemon, and changed water every day. a coffee filter secured with a rubber band.
When they are ready, you can add anything you wish (fruit, juice, etc. ) to the second fermentation.
To prevent the grains from being killed by tap water, I followed the directions AND used purified water that didn't contain any chlorine. Having started over three days earlier, I went back to the beginning. It will just take a bit longer for the grains to rehydrate. Unfortunately, nothing has worked out. My first attempt at another brand was unsuccessful I threw them away.
These were my first pair two years ago, but I still buy them. For my household, I use organic sugar and spring water with minerals since the grains can't tolerate chlorine and need added minerals to survive. I follow a YouTube video on how to activate grains, provided by cultures for health. The effectiveness of rehydration can be delayed for up to two weeks after the initial rehydrating days It will take 3 more days before grains begin to settle into their groove.
The water kefir from Cultures for Health did not fizz after I followed the instructions. I have purchased other products from the company in the past. My usual method of buying their items is straight from them, but since I have prime, I get free shipping. Sadly I didn't learn that it didn't work until after the return period had expired, due to the fact that I was very busy. After feeding it several more times, I hoped it would begin to show signs of life, but it did not.
They have been in my possession for WEEKS and I have tried following the instructions many times, but to no avail. A grain is pretty much the same as a grain.
We purchased these grains under the assumption that they would work. It seemed that they were going well at first, but then they became a challenge. I didn't grow from seed, it would smell a little funky after sitting out overnight, and it just didn't seem to be doing what others often said it should. The type I acquired was much better and I ended up buying it. They can grow to either large or small sizes and neither increase in size nor amount upon dehydration.
It is unfortunate that I followed the instructions exactly and the grains did not activate. My sugar water always turned out to be very sweet.
The instructions were easy to follow and laid out clearly. The grains were still grainy after three days, but that's when they fell apart. These gummy bears were of an extremely mushy consistency that I did not find suitable for use. If they had shown a picture of what it should look like after three days, I would have loved it. So this would seem to have been a failure overall.
