Questions & Answers

Are there any other ingredients I will need to make Kefir water besides these grains?

To prepare sugar and purified water, you will need these items. As far as I know, reverse osmosis has not caused any harm to me. As a side note, I use a stainless steel strainer every day. Kefir grains love stainless steel strainers. If it's aluminum, make sure that it is not. Though I am not sure if it will have any effect on the situation The amount of molasses I add is about 1/4 teaspoon along with half a teaspoon of baking soda and coral calcium ingredients. The kefir does not seem to mind at all. In such situations, as long as you have at least a stainless steel strainer, you can use that. Kefir grains have to be given away every few weeks to me due to my use for years.

straining, there was a clump of a slimy, darker, tissue-like substance with a few kefir grains stuck to it. Do you think this is ?

You can tell how your own kefir looks by its appearance, as it will change from time to time (usually depending on seasons/temperatures or whether you feed it enough, but it can even depend on the type of sugar or brand of water you use). If the package got too hot or too cold while being mailed, and that was compounded by the fact that it was already in a state of stress because it was not fed, then all of this wouldn't make much sense. It is impossible to know if yours will hold up until you make use of It requires 1/4 cup of brown sugar, a quart of nonchlorinated water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda Mix 1/4 cup of water with 1/4 cup of However, you should probably toss the first batch or two anyway since the kefir are stressed (after all, they weren't in "your" liquid either, so there is no way of knowing how they were housed). It is unnecessary to rinse and you end up losing the baby kefir in the process of doing so). Whether the dog eats as much sugar as you'd like or not (to help with stress reduction), feed it every 24 hours for the first couple of days. When it has been drank a few times, it should be safe to consume. Upon opening, the smell is a bit funky and tart (like a citrus fruit). You have something wrong (a grain in which stress is still present or it has a sickness). I would contact the seller if the smell is like acetone. You are probably not going to get any viable kefir if it smells or tastes like sugar water (plus, you should be able to see little bubbles in the fermentation container after feeding it). You're good to go if you follow these simple instructions. There is no reason for it to be more than just the weather or stress, because they do change appearances from time to time. It took me about a week to get mine looking normal. started looking like little chunks of yeast. Months later, they are like big rocks covered in crystals. kefir must be kept in the same manner and fed the same foods.

How can I find out if these products are gluten free? Can you make it without dairy?

My apologies for the delay in responding to Wheat is produced in a gluten-free environment There is no charge for this service. However, do not use dairy products Our dairy farm also grows milk kefir, so it is free as Thanks for your kind words.

Kefir is made of water. How is that made?

This is not a grain per se, but it has an unusual shape, so it is called that. They resemble jelly crystals, as far as I can tell. In each piece, good bacteria and microorganisms are combined in a symbiotic manner. Sugar water is the main source of nourishment for them.

My family and I feel that these are the best water kefir grains we have ever purchased
5/5

The water kefir grains I bought from you have already outperformed every other batch I have previously purchased Here are some ways in which they are superior 2. . . A lot of kefir grains arrive "distressed" and you have to take good care of them for a few weeks to get them to start making good kefir, and even longer to get them to multiply. I received these plump babies the same day and they began fizzing and multiplying quickly! It is impossible for any of you to believe that they have quadrupled in number in 6 days. I'd also like to thank my four-legged friends). Please note 2. The shipping was super fast! I'm not a stickler for fast shipping, but with living organisms such as these, shipping time is critical, and I was blown away by how quickly these arrived (I placed my order on a Friday and received it on a In large part, this was due to the quick transit time that allowed these grains to arrive in great condition and get to work right away. 1. 2. 3. It is also likely that the seller is a packing genius, which may have contributed to these grains doing so well after their travels. So now I'm going to bash those ignorant reviews that complain about the "balloon" in which the grains arrived. I can only describe it as a black sausage casing tied at both ends, that's the best way to describe it, it's not like the type of balloon people blow up at parties. Honestly, I don't know what material the "balloon" is made of, but I know it looks like it's intended to be used for storing food, since it's odorless. It is true that there is a smell when you open the "balloon. " However, that is the smell of grains. Since the gear came from the other side of the world in an airtight container, it has become a little musty. This is normal. It takes a couple of weeks after making the first batch of water kefir for the smell to go away. The second reason, for those of you complaining about said balloon, is that it is a GEM and very inventive idea for transporting grains, and for these reasons Kefir grains emit carbon dioxide when they are left inside a sealed container for long periods of time. If you don't open the container periodically to release this pressure, the container will When I was attempting to transport some grains myself from Florida to Texas (I stole some of my dad's grains while I was visiting him and put them in a jar in my checked luggage), I actually came across this kind of thing. That was a bad idea! As soon as I got to Texas, I found the lid off the jar and my grains were all over my clothes It is important to note that balloons are STRONG and therefore can accommodate expansion from the gas that is being released from grains. It is vital that you remember that the "balloon" your grains arrive in protects them from exploding all over the box in which they arrived. stop complaining about the kefir water glass packaging and stop leaving sellers negative reviews because of Furthermore, the seller also wraps the grains in two thick zip baggies after the balloon, increasing protection from damage during transit. Next, the seller places the balloon in a plastic storage container, enclosing the container in two thick zip baggies to further prevent explosions. A big thank you to you Florida Sun Keir for your innovative water kefir packaging! As someone who has consumed two batches of water kefir made from these grains, I can attest to the fact that the grains Now for anyone who might be on the fence about buying from this seller since this product is not Prime eligible and are tempted instead to buy dehydrated grains from Cultures for Health, I'll save you the time and let you know DON'T buy! I used to buy dehaydrated grains from Cultures for Health before I bought these grains, and I will never purchase them in the future. It would take me a novel to expound upon the fact that I should have listened to people who warned me about the horrible performance and eventual death of water kefir grains that have been dehydrated for too long. Even after caring for Cultures for Health grains and moving them around from place to place, Before I purchased these grains, I questioned my kefir skills. When I made kefir with these grains, I discovered I was not opt to get your grains from Florida Sun rather than any other source. As a result, this seller is not able to sell these grains as Prime products because sellers must store and ship their products through Amazon in order to make their products Prime eligible. A seller that offers free FAST shipping on live water kefir grains is an obvious choice, since it's impossible to store water kefir grains in an Amazon warehouse. My definition of faster shipping is faster than Prime. The grains that Cultures for Health sell through Amazon Prime are dehydrated before they can be sold in Amazon warehouses due to their shelf life. Take a listen to what this water kefir nerd has to say I'm not a fan of dehydrated water kefir grains! The following statement is in agreement with one of the reviews I read There is a PDF of water kefir information on this seller's website that's God-sent This is awful in terms of spelling, grammar, and information organization. Growing kefir grains is the best thing they do, but publishing isn't so great. The grains are still fantastic, so do not let that discourage you from buying them. to learn about how to make water kefir, what type of sugar and water you should use, and recipe ideas, the Cultures for Health website is a great resource. Be careful not to buy their dehydrated grains - you'll regret it.

How far west of the Rocky Mountains is it? Another supplier might be more suitable
3/5

First off, I love fermenting anything at all that I can get my hands on and would rate myself as I am ecstatic! i) knowledge and experience in fermentation. In my review of the Florida Sun Kefir Grains, I found them to be Having received the grains, I was extremely impressed. They came with some glossy, durable paper cards and a link to an ebook that contained I do not want to put you through that

There was no fermentation at all despite the grains arriving quickly, looking and smelling just like the grains I have previously brewed. It was an absolute waste of money and time. My third unsuccessful attempt to brew water kefir led me to believe that the grains may need to be rehabilitated or re-nourished. In order to resolve the problem, I followed recommendations from Sandor Katz, culturesforhealth, and kombuchakamp, which involved various combinations of resting, rinsing, and feeding As a result of my six successive attempts at rehabilitation, I have been rehabilitating grains for nearly a year. The water remained sugary from the start, with no activity or carbonation at all. Could it be that Florida and California are just too far apart? There is no way I can recommend this supplier in any way. The cost of grains is not the only factor that hurts sweeteners, which can add up very quickly if you use organic, fair-trade, minimally processed sugar can also add up quickly. Even though this Florida supplier has good reviews, if you live anywhere near the West Coast DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! It would be ideal to have a supplier who is a bit closer. You're in luck and enjoy fermenting your new product (with another).

We look at the best kefir grains on the market
5/5

I have a relationship with these water kefir grains that is almost too amazing to describe! It is worth 8 stars to buy Florida Sun Kefir! The product was shipped to me the very next day after I placed my order late on the 18th of February. It was noted that USPS had listed the package as having been delivered on the 22nd however, once again there was an error One of my neighbors received my package. Because the neighbor did not get home until late at night, and he didn't have a clue as to what was in the package, the grain sat on their counter until they figured it out. Also, it The food grade bags are very thick, as well as the food grade, biodegradable black balloon and the food grade, thick clear bags. All the contents of the clear bags should be contained in them. It is necessary to keep the grains cool and out of the light by using a black cup and black balloon. Grain can now be shipped safely using this extremely innovative technology. As far as I can tell, this package cannot burst or leak, unless someone deliberately drops it on the ground and/or steps As a result, I acquired a little over 1/4th cup but it was not quite a 1/3rd cup of grains with about 1T of liquid. There was no moisture in any of the grains. Everything was poured into a quart jar, I did not rinse it out, filled it with water from my Berkey, and added about 1/4 cup of raw, organic cane sugar and 1 T A coffee filter was used to cover the jar and the rubber band was used for securing it. As it was still fairly cold in our house, I put the jar in the oven with the light on for two As the grains grew fatter, they doubled in size! I tossed out this batch and started a fresh one because the molasses fed the bacteria well, and the kefir was drinkable. My main issue with the drink was the very strong molasses flavor and the VERY sweet taste of the kefir. In my second batch, I used all the grains as well as 2 T. raw cane sugar and 1t. molasses instead of 1 T. raw cane sugar. After a second ferment, the grains had doubled in size again, and the kefir was ready for a third I made two separate quarts using two tubes of grains, two tubes of raw cane sugar, and a short squirt of corn syrup for the third and fourth batches, respectively.
