I'm not sure. So you'd have to make sure temperature is right since it's an alive animal. If you are unsure of the temperatures it can survive the shipment, you may need to contact the manufacturer or seller.

Can the grains be stored for a long time?

There is no end to the universe, theoretically. You do not have to worry about the sugar water if you change it when it needs to be changed and care for it properly.

You can buy the grains by themselves I give the grains 5 stars I have been making water kefir after some trial and error and that turned out to be great

You get one star if you download the PDF! Presented in an unorganized, repetitive, and confusing way. The use of 'dark sugar' has been mentioned several times. Since coconut sugar is dark, it goes well with new grains but is a little too strong for the new ones. Research elsewhere led me to learn this (I learned this through other sources). Then I had to rest them for almost two weeks before I could start training We are now using raw turbinado sugar and are very happy with the The instructions on other websites are better than the ones in the PDF download. It is hard to describe the grains, but the ones I have purchased are great.

My doubled has blackstrap and ostrich feathers It will take about two weeks for cane sugar to be ready. I was impressed with how well they were packaged. Now on my fourth batch of water and am fermenting with Pomegranate juice for my second fermentation. There have been double digit growth in grains! A 1/4 cup is great, and I'm very happy with it. My first impression was definitely not good. The company started slowly and then the shipping took longer than expected.
