The unit produces significantly more electronic noise than a 40-year-old integrated amplifier. It's loud enough for you to hear it, but not too loud. If you buy one of these units, don't get the AC-powered one; instead, get the battery-powered one to avoid noise.
I've got this thing hooked up to a homemade vacuum tube amplifier. The inputs of this preamp are connected to a turntable with a magnetic cartridge as well as a satellite fm stereo receiver. This preamplifier has a fantastic sound. It has left a lasting impression on me.
