The bearing should be pressed into the axle tube if it's pressed in. An axle's inner race acts as a bearing's inner race, and so is often the location to chew on.

It was just delivered to me today, and I was able to use it to remove a set of wheel bearings from a Ford The rear ends are 8 inches long. As I disassembled the differential, it had been sitting in a puddle of water since the early 90s and has been fighting me every step of the way. had my swords out and was ready for a fight when I had to get the axle bearings out, since it took 3 days to remove the axles. There was a lot of rust on this axle tube. I simply slipped the bearing puller into the axle tube and found the head behind the bearing. After that, I tightened the base nut to lock in place. A slide hammer is required (not included) for this tool to function, so I fitted it there and set it loose. Take three swings with the hammer and remove the whole bearing, the race, and the drive shaft Taking it from one side to the other it came out one piece, intact. Moved it to the other side and it was the same. I wouldn't have thought of this but this tool is one of those 'why didn't I think of this?' You can find their tools on their website. This is an outstanding achievement It is important to have the right tools The price is exceptional for the quality of this product. Thank you for the purchase.
As long as you use it with a hammer, the tool works flawlessly for you. It is no favor to the tool people not to inform the customer in the listing that they will need a slide hammer with a 5/8" fine thread. In this case, it would have been obvious if it came with instructions or if there were a video somewhere. This is the line that shows the correct method of using My experience has been that when I see bent washers and stripped nuts, users are using the tool incorrectly. The washers and nut should have no real pressure on them except to hold the tool on the bearing and to keep it mounted. Thanks to the slide hammer, I was able to figure out how to use the tool, but not everyone can. I would have given it five stars if I could have.
My favorite thing about this set is everything about it. The hammer must be used with an appropriate slide hammer, which I also purchased on Amazon. There are no bearings on the pullers, the washers are merely used to align the puller, and the slide hammer does the rest. I cannot express enough how impressed I am with just how easy it is to use. Our van's rear bearings were being removed, and every time I tried to remove a part I had fought with it. I found this tool to be quite helpful when it came to removing the bearings. I just hammered the hammer a few times and the bearing dropped out so quickly that I was amazed.
As a result, my bearings weren't able to come out, and the washers were bent, but I thought it might have been the drive shaft.
I had six slide hammers, but this was the biggest, about 5/8"" off the top of my head, the others were slightly smaller
no other way to do it one I had with a 90* part welded on, I don't think it will work as hard to get this.
I couldn't believe how easy it was to use. This tool was used by me today to remove the rear wheel bearings from a semi My project vehicle (1977 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser) has a floating rear axle. As far as I know, I have a nice, solid 10lb slide hammer. The middle sized puller in the set fit just fine and I was able to pull the bearing without any issues. In addition to the large, powerful hammer, I'm sure having a large, heavy bag of sand probably helped also. The kit comes with a slide hammer with 5/8 threads, so make sure you get one (or have one) before you buy it.
It is a concern of mine that although all 5/8 slide hammers should have the same threads, this set won't allow me to turn more than two threads at a time. I am worried about the different thread pattern on it. Its performance will be monitored once I use it, and I intend to raise the rating to.
The price was great and the delivery was quick. I have used these tools for years, all different brands, and this one was just as good as the otc/Mac. The snap on tool is better because they make theirs only to fit the snap on slide hammer, which has a bigger shaft size than everyone else's.
