I put the oil filter through and it started dripping oil when I went to change the oil a little more than a month later. The cracks were nearly all the way across, but because of the red color, you couldn't see them, but once the black oil was exposed, you could see them very clearly. The item that I found and bought for me and my mechanic is the one on this page. Changing my oil is no longer a frequent occurrence for me. As a diesel mechanic, I use the man who is next to my shop. Luckily, I have this little gizmo so he can install the filter with oil already in it. Starting up the engine takes less time because it does not need to be run dry as long. Even though those engine bearings do have some lubrication, it would be better if you could decrease the amount of dry run time. When you take out your filter, you can also use it to get the oil out without spilling a drop.
