Questions & Answers

What is your opinion, advice, or suggestion as to how to go about Is it worth making the effort?

A novice painter cannot tackle a quality paint project like this on their very first attempt. Like any superior paint project, it all begins with prepping. To start, I used Simple Green at 50% solution then, I roughed the surface up with wire brush and aluminum oxide sandpaper Clean the brake calipers with brake cleaner (2 cans for 4 calipers) for the last step. It's important to have a good light set up in the fender well so that you can see what you are doing. To light my work area, I use a 500 watt halogen lamp. My front calipers on both cars have four pistons and are fixed mounts that have a large We recommend painting the calipers with at least two coats, as there's ample paint in the can to cover the 8 calipers twice, with plenty of left over paint for retouching. Work from the bottom up (gravity may cause runs) when choosing your brush strokes. Make sure you keep the wet edge of the paint moving, since the paint dries very fast To minimize the width of the wet edge, you need to plan your stroke strategy. At least 20 minutes should elapse before you go back to cover a thin or missed spot If you don't let it sit for 30 minutes, it will stick and pull. It is unclear how to follow the directions on the package. My conclusion is the same as other reviewers make sure you get a decent brush. I used a 1/2 inch and 1 inch brush. There is no mention of a thinner or solvent on the package. The common mineral spirits paint thinner worked great for two different purposes to thin the paint a little (reserve some for cleaning brushes) if the humidity was low, and to thin the paint a little more than normal. If you want to apply paint from a cup or bowl, you should use that (don't use a Styrofoam coffee cup, it will dissolve). When you pour the paint from the source container into your working cup/bowl (stir every time), you must ensure the unused paint is not contaminated by the source paint thinner, and the lid must stay on the source paint can so the thinner will not Depending on which caliper you are working on, each coat may take you 45 minutes. Invest in a stool or kneeling pad to make this more comfortable, because it turns into a marathon job to do it The job is easier to do if you place the car on a lift instead of Make sure to use newspaper or cardboard to prevent paint drips on the garage floor or driveway. In the end, it is near impossible to remove the stuff Once I had let the second coat dry for an hour, I had to move the cars. Since the calipers had just been painted, I had to be very careful when mounting the wheels. My speed was below 30 mph, and I used minimal brakes for the two miles to my garage, where I spent 24 hours drying. The heat and brake dust were avoided it did not affect the It's close to concours quality, so I'm satisfied with what I've accomplished. Previously, I have used spray paint with good results, but the color isn't as bright and glossy as it could have been. Instead of masking time (takes a lot of time to do a thorough and careful job) I decided to use this brush on product. What I saved in masking time, I lost in painting time, as spray paint went on quickly and has good coverage once masked. In some areas, you may need a steady hand if you apply with a brush and minimal masking. The process of brushing on the paint is arduous. The process for applying one coat of each *br>caliper may take 15 to 45 minutes. I have calipers mounted in a fixed position, 4 pistons in diameter. It's a marathon job to do this right, so make sure you're comfortable with a stool or kneeling pad. It is much easier to lift the car with a lift than to use When working in the fender well, it is essential to have good lighting. Throughout the process, I used a 500 watt halogen work It is important to schedule paint setup and drying time. You need at least 20 minutes to allow the paint to set up and dry. It takes less than one hour to start the second coat, but it takes about 30 minutes to start the second coat. Alternatively, if the paint has been exposed for longer than 1 hour, wait 5 days for curing before applying another ***Follow the same brushing pattern as for the first coat as you begin the second As a result, you are only allowed to have two calipers during the process of applying multiple coats of paint in one After those two are complete and dry, take a quick break, then move on to the

This blue kit did good work on the black Dodge RAM 1500 I had in the past. After applying the paint, I had the truck for over a year, and I never noticed any chipping or wear on the paint, so it holds up well and is worth the investment. Some helpful hints (2) Before starting your car, clean the brake calipers well with brake cleaner and dry them completely. box and discard the paint brush in it as soon as it is opened. This kind of brush is not a paintbrush, but rather an application You'll discover that a few dollars invested in soft bristled paint brushes for models / arts & crafts can go a long way Take advantage of the arts and crafts. By doing this, you can keep the paint smooth and free of streaks. (1) Check the paint right after it has dried, but also wait a day before you drive the vehicle so it has had time to cure well before you heat up Your results will be amazing, I'm sure.

What are the advantages of sticking ?

Carlos is a jerk, so don't bother with him. As far as we know, what you're asking is not a mystery. If adequate prep is done and the right conditions are met, I think this paint would bond with

Would you describe the yellow as a glowing "daisy" yellow or a darker "sunflower" ?

A photo of the 2017 Challenger GT AWD my wife drives. The yellow is a bit lighter than that of the yellow jacket. The wife thinks that it still looks good, so keep it up.

You did a great job painting! While the pain can run a bit like any other kind of spry paint, it is somewhat forgiving and tends to self-heal if you don't get too heavy with it
4/5

There is a quick intercoat time and final cure takes 7 days. Several coats are necessary, but it is not difficult to apply. It is a great color and a good I had one can do the job on all 4 rotors of my 2019 Civic as you can see from.

Rather than remaining skeptical, I became satisfied

I highly recommend it- We especially recommend the Satin Black to downplay rusty brakes and focus on the wheels instead. The product seemed like it would take a lot of effort to get it to stick, and I wasn't sure if it would indeed The results after applying it were pleasantly surprising (on both counts). Let me first state that The year is Sandpaper didn't need to be used to rough them up. My first step was to scrub the surfaces I wanted to paint with wire, then nylon brushes (search for "TEKTON 7068"), and then blast the surfaces It is a good idea to purchase an extra can. The pills are inexpensive and 1 doesn't seem to be The other reviews said to apply multiple thin coats, but I needed to apply it a little heavier due to my calipers soaking it up. The next day I bought a 10-inch brush after reading reviews of the useless one There are a number of small hogs in this pack As the paint is very goopy and dries very quickly on the brush, being able to throw out the brushes after each wheel was incredibly helpful. This project was to paint the brake calipers satin black to make them disappear behind the new wheels I had purchased. Thus, I was surprised to find that after the first coat I had achieved my mission. The paint covered amazingly well so there was little gain from doing multiple coats. If I were painting them red to show off, I would definitely have painted them more coats to try to get the texture smoother, but I painted them anyway to show off. Curing them with a heat gun was the best method- For each wheel, about 15 minutes were required, which did not completely dry things, but put them on a faster track. As well as the rusty wheel hubs, I painted the outside edges of the rotors (basically any visible part of the rotor that I wasn't sure was being touched with Because the foam brushes worked so well, I took my time and used zero masking tape. After everything has been completed, I am overwhelmed with how wonderful it looks. There was an odor emanating from the brakes for the first few days following the repair - This is probably because the rotors get pretty hot while I used it. The time taken (including drying) for the wheel removal and replacement was probably 4 hours. 70% of the paint is left in the can, which I will use to touch up any damaged areas when the brakes are replaced. When you buy calipers from the factory, they are usually rough, so if you want the finish to be truly smooth, you should polish them. The paint will need several coats, and you should allow plenty of time for it to dry During that time. It is nevertheless a great upgrade as far as inexpensive upgrades are concerned. The moment I glance at many cars with nice wheels behind crappy looking brakes, I'm struck by the fact that so many of them have terrible brakes. This is not my work. This is not the case.

All you need is one coat! Because I was limited by time and equipment, I was only able to spray on one coat and that was literally all it took
5/5

Despite the fact that the color doesn't fade, it remains true blue. It has been over a month since I painted our calipers, and the paint is still there, also after three full washes It is washed. I also use tire spray (I also spray on the tires). There is no way I can tell if it affects brake performance, but it sure I'm not a mechanic, but I was able to do all the work of removing the tire and spraying the paint myself without assistance.

We are very happy with our results they look very sharp! The calipers and rotors that I painted last August did not hold up well over the winter, so I wanted to see how it would stand up before writing The first thing to say is that I am totally happy with this product
5/5

Make sure you prepare! Make sure you prepare! You can only get a good paint job if you have done a good job of preparing it. It's like building a house, if the foundation isn't solid, the rest doesn't matter. The problem is, I did this on a brand new truck, but I still degreased with brake cleaner, wire brushed, sanded, degreased, and then wiped it Paint over a poorly prepped caliper that still has dirt, grease, or rust won't last, that's the products fault. I will remove the brake pads when I do my wife's vehicle and remove the calipers from the rotor. In the future, I won't need to repeat all that masking. You need to keep track of everything very carefully if you want to do it right. You can paint all four at the same time if you put the car on jack stands, do your prep, and paint all four at the same time. By the time you finish the fourth coat, it will be time for the next coat on the first, etc. Make sure you read and follow the application instructions regarding humidity, application, and curing times so that it turns out As well as painting the visible surfaces of my rotors with Dupli-color My favorite color is Black Satin because to me, a rusty rotor takes away from a well-designed There was only a small amount of paint on the rotor that could be seen. Do not paint the face of the rotor (hub) where the wheel is in contact with the rotor unless you want to suffer from wheel balance problems later after the wheels are installed. If there is even the slightest amount of paint between the wheel and the rotor hub face, vibrations will occur. Although I am not sure that this paint is rated for the rotor due to the fact that it gets much hotter than the caliper, I have not experienced any Despite my best efforts, the injury took a long time to heal. Before you drive, make sure it is not even the slightest bit tacky. To heat them up, I drove the car around the neighborhood for a couple of miles. I was able to get back to them after a short rest, where there was a tacky feeling about them. After letting them cool, I let them sit one more day, and did the same the day after that. The next day I used the car normally and it didn't happen again. I let it sit all day and drove it throughout the day. In the past, I have driven my truck and washed it normally at the car wash without any hiccups. I have not damaged the caliper or rotor paint when I use the car wash sprayer. The sprayer is not directly next to the caliper when I wash them, I wash them normally. If you can spend a little money on paint brushes, I would recommend doing so. Paint this thick and you will need to be careful as the bristles of the brush will pull onto your painted The other reviews had already warned me about this, and I had already bought a little better quality brush from the craft store, but I was being cheap and bought a lower or middle grade I was not able to save enough money to offset the time I spent picking out bristles. It would be better if I spent the money on a brush that can hold thick paint next time.

Your brakes will look gorgeous if you follow these steps! The stuff was used to paint the rotor hats of a car with calipers and thin spoke wheels with large pretty red calipers
5/5

Because of the design of the wheels, the rotors on the car are very visible. They would form a nice orange "frosting" after a heavy A solution was to paint the rotor hats after masking off the areas where the brake pads ride, with a slight overlap so the pads could cut slightly into the paint for a smooth, round appearance.

As I mentioned, it's been a few months and the paint is still holding up fine.
Even after several hard braking cycles, where I could smell the paint cooking at the time. This is shown in red on my calipers as well.
I am pleased with the performance of the calipers, which have held up well for several years. The paint is easy to clean and restore to a bright finish according to the manufacturer.
