Technically, you can switch models, but you'll have to flash the firmware to do so. If you find a perfect match, all you have to do is swap the old mew drive's little circuit board into the new one, and it will work without a hitch.
No, it won't happen. Before attempting to replace your drive, do some research to determine the exact model that will work in your device; there are four different drives that will work in standard Xbox 360s, but you must replace the one in your system with the exact same one you had before. I'm not sure what drive models the elites use, but you should find out by doing some research.
No, you can play xbox games even if they are old versions, but you will need an updated game console to play them. You can also use it to play DVDs.br>

My Xbox 360 had no issues with it. br>Quick tip for replacing a drive:br>br>When looking for a replacement, make sure the model and brand of the drive match the drive currently inside the xbox, or you'll have to flash the new drive, which can be difficult. Installation Notes: br>br> br>This isn't just a plug-and-play part; each Xbox is effectively "married" to its original partner. However, if you followed my previous advice and purchased a compatible replacement part, all you have to do now is swap the small circuit boards (located on the underside of the drives) from the old to the new part, and the Xbox will have no idea.
Instead, for half the price of what Gamestop would give me for my Xbox, I decided to replace my drive myself. It was a wise choice. Getting the xbox case apart was the most difficult part of the entire replacement; the tangs on the back are a pain to open without tearing them up. br>In terms of flashing the drive, you can do so if you want, but an easier way is to simply remove the circuit board from the old drive and replace the circuit board in the new drive with the one from the old drive. However, if your circuit board in your old drive is toast, you WILL have to flash the new drive. br>After swapping the boards (which requires reattaching four ribbon cables, which I believe requires a tech level 3 out of 10) and reassembling the case, the machine booted up, made less noise, and read all of my discs correctly. Rather than buying a new or refurbished system from a retailer, I would strongly advise you to take this route. br>A word about the vendor; Deal Barn was an amazing experience! I placed my order on Tuesday morning, and it arrived at my front door on Thursday evening. Because the seller is in Indiana and I am in Kansas City, I believe the shipping time was excellent, particularly for USPS Priority mail. The shipping costs were a little high, but the two-day turnaround was well worth it.
As a result, I've given this replacement drive a two-star rating because it does the job. br>br>I purchased this to replace the DVD drive on my Xbox 360 that I broke while modding the case (oops). I replaced the board in the original dvd drive with this replacement drive, and it worked perfectly. br>br>The problem is that whatever plastic they used to make the casing is utter garbage. I received one that was broken (thank goodness for Amazon, as I received a replacement). Unfortunately, the replacement arrived broken as well, albeit in a more manageable state. So I figured, screw it, I'll just glue it (which is exactly what I did). I called amazon and got 50% refund on my order. br>br>As I was putting everything together, two more plastic parts came loose. One of them is the tab that holds the pcb board in place (which isn't a big deal because it stays put pretty well). The second was one of the nubs that connects to the eject button, which caused the eject button to stop working, forcing me to glue it in. br>br>As I previously stated, the drive functions properly, but the plastic casing is a disaster.
I ordered the new drive on Friday, it arrived on Monday, and I only had to use the standard 3-pin connector. Delivery time is five days. br>br>After being wrapped in bubble wrap, the drive was suspended in the middle of the box, surrounded by soft foam peanut packing material. I simply had to remove my old 360 drive, open it up, remove the old circuit board, and replace it with the circuit board on the new drive, and my 360 no longer sounds like a clunky nuclear reactor, and I was able to play a few games of Halo Reach without experiencing any of the old disc unreadable errors. I didn't have to purchase a new 360 slim because of this.
All I have to say is thank you for your prompt delivery! If I had double-checked that I had purchased the correct one, this part would have worked perfectly. This was purchased to replace my Xbox 360, which had issues with the door opening. after dismantling it and discovering it wasn't the right one- I reassembled the old one, and it has been working perfectly ever since. This is something I'm going to keep just in case someone else has this model.
I bought this drive to replace a broken one for a friend. We discovered after installation that in order for it to play games, you must reformat it with the formats from the old drive; this information would have been helpful to know before purchasing. The drive, on the other hand, was delivered on time and fit and functioned as expected (for dvds).
the x- 360-degree CD box There is omission of crucial information. the x- The CD drive on the Xbox 360 requires a unique code that must match the motherboard; otherwise, it will not function.
While the product did not meet my expectations, the customer service was excellent. Ben is the person you should contact. He is an excellent representative for the company, and the world would be a much better place if more people were like him! The only drawback with the DVD drive is that it must be flashed. I'll reiterate that I adore Closeout Master's and will be a repeat customer, with the best customer service I've ever encountered. Ben is the real deal!.
