Make sure you look over your work! When I first opened the package, I thought they were fantastic! br>*I went through each unit individually. br>Everything is in excellent working order. br>*I went over each of the ten sticks with a magnifying glass. br>Once more. Condition is excellent. br>* Last but not least, the hundred block. br>I was completely taken aback and disappointed! br>This isn't a sturdy object. br>As you can see from the photographs. The entire one side of this one piece has a sharp opening along the edge. Yes, I could cover it with clear gorilla tape to prevent it from cutting my grandson's hand. br>- However, I don't believe I should be required to do so. br>*Learning Resources is a company from which I purchase the majority of my educational materials and have done so for many years! It's disappointing to see them produce such poor work. Disappoints me a great deal! br>I'm hoping that their quality control and representation of "their products" will improve in the future. br>I've seen a lot of companies' standards drop since Covid-- The year is 19th, and the world is on the verge of a global pandemic br>At least, that's what I think. I'm hoping that I won't have to stop buying this company's educational toys and products. THEIR IDEAS ARE AMAZING. AND THEN THERE'S THE PRODUCTS! br>For many years, I've been a loyal customer! br>**PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR PARTS. ❤.

5 stars. I bought these a few years ago and they've held up remarkably well! The fact that they are made of plastic rather than the foam that many of these sets are made of is my favorite feature of them. I find that foam gets dirty quickly, but these stayed clean for a long time. They were very easy to clean if they became dirty. I've even written on them with an Expo marker, which wipes clean! br>Organizing them is my ONLY gripe. They come in a good-sized box, but I like to see how things can be stored in my classroom and if students can put them back in without help, and these items are more difficult to get back into the box neatly where the lid closes. So, if you're a well-organized teacher, you'll probably want to use/purchase a separate storage option, which is why half a star is deducted.
These were purchased in order to assist my first-grade student. She uses them in class, and her teacher suggested that she use them at home to practice her math concepts. This is an excellent product.
When I ordered this kit, the exact contents were not listed in the description, so I'll list them here in case anyone else runs into the same problem. br>br>100 base ten unitsbr> 50 base ten rodsbr> 10 base ten flatsbr> 1 base ten cubebr> 1 base ten revised edition grades 3 and up 6 book (107 pages)br>br>The individual units are 1cm cubes that weigh approximately 1 pound each. 1g, both of which are useful in familiarizing my children with those units of measurement. This kit has made a big impression on me.
I'd like to express how much this item has aided my son, even though we've only worked with it for a short time. I had previously created a paper base ten set with small stickers, but my son still didn't grasp the concept of place value with that. He's excited to use this set because he wants to build towers and patterns with the pieces, so we used it today, along with a few other things, for a lesson that seems to have finally helped the concept click for him, and I'm looking forward to teaching him more concepts with it over the summer. (My son is 7 years old and just finished first grade. ) The items I used with this set were a dry erase pocket in which I placed a piece of paper on which I drew a place value chart, and a place value dice set that I also purchased from Amazon. br> I had my son roll the dice and write the numbers on the chart where they belonged to make the number, then I showed him how to read it. The next step in our process of learning place value was for me to have him pull the correct amount of different value blocks from this base ten set according to the number we had written on the board that was derived from the dice, and the last step was for me to let him make a unique tower creation using only the blocks he pulled for that number, so that every time he makes one, it will be different. br>I'm overjoyed to have finally gotten this concept across to him before he starts second grade, when they'll most likely assume he already knows it. br> I'd also like to point out that when the hundreds flats are stacked, they resemble the thousands block, so my son was able to see how they related accurately and surprised me by doing so and telling me what it meant. I was certain he hadn't thought of this before, and my paper model couldn't demonstrate it. The squares in each increment piece are all the same size, from one to ten, flats to cube, which is convenient. br> If there is one flaw with this set, it is that there are only 1,000 cubes included; however, I was aware of this prior to purchase, and I am aware that if more were included, the price would be higher. For the time being, I'm happy to limit my son's addition and subtraction to 2000 and below, as well as place value.
After years of using the starter set, I decided to purchase the classroom set for a preschool where I work. The 10 activity books and storage box were not included in this set. "Set includes 600 individual units, 200 rods, 20 flats, 3 cubes, 10 Activity Books, Teaching Notes, and storage box," according to the description. I'm disappointed because I can't return this set because I'm out of the country. It came in a standard cardboard box, but I was hoping for something different for the storage box, something that would help organize the pieces.
