I think these are a much better alternative to coloring books, which have water paint. My toddler has no issues using them because they stay open, have thick pages, and have been able to withstand beatings. For when I am working and do not have the time to do the messier projects, these are perfect for me.

Pens let out too much water at a time. You can put however much or how little water you like in the pens but they still leak out too much. This made the pages of the book take bubbles and was so slow to dry that it took forever. Having to wait hours to use these objects again wore on Little One's patience.
