Questions & Answers

Is it possible to create multiple accounts for different people? So you can only look at the cameras and have no other options?

sure. There are three users in our system, one of whom is an administrator.

How many cameras can be added to this product?

Nothing more than the ones assigned to the 16-channel DVR.

Is it possible to use this unit to run both 960H and 1080P cameras at the same time?

Yes, older cameras will work in the same way that 1080 cameras will. To view the HD picture from 1080 cameras, go to the app's settings and select HD. If you have any 1080 cameras, make sure they are in 1080 mode before connecting this system; otherwise, even if the camera is capable of 1080, you will only get 960H images.

I'll be honest, I had no problems receiving my shipment, installing the hard drive, connecting it to the computer, and booting it up
3/5

When it first came up, I set everything up and was done, but none of my cameras were recording video. I fiddled around for a while before calling tech support, who informed me that my cameras were incompatible with this system, which irritated me. My cameras would work fine, according to the Amazon ad and the answers to the questions. Anyway, I disconnected everything and reconnected my old system in preparation for returning the Amcrest. Imagine my surprise when my cameras refused to work with the previous system, which had been working for only a few hours? To cut a long story short, I discovered that my camera adapter had failed and that the cameras were not receiving power. I reconnected the Amcrest after resolving that issue, and I'm very pleased with the ease of use and video quality, as well as the speed and quality of remote viewing on my iPad. Wouldn't it have been a pity if I had boxed this up and shipped it back because some inept person in India was either too lazy or didn't know enough to assist me in repairing it? I wish there was a way to find out who I spoke with because retraining or termination is required here. br>I just hope I never have to use tech support again; why don't companies realize how frustrating it is to speak with someone who doesn't speak English and has no more technical knowledge than the average user? If not for the poor tech support, the review would have received five stars.

It's been redesigned to perform worse! For years, I've relied on Amcrest to install new systems as well as upgrade existing ones
3/5

Sadly, that will not be the case after today. br>I bought this unit to replace a Night Owl system for a client who already had one. br>After installation, it fails to recognize half of the cameras. (There are no differences between the cameras. ) This is coax technology, not rocket science. br>I contacted customer service, who informed me that they do not provide support for system compatibility issues and recommended that I replace all of the cameras with Amcrest cameras. br>Amcrest has completely redesigned the user interface for this system, so there are no longer any camera manufacturers or types to adjust. They've decided to isolate themselves from the rest of the security system industry, so their products are no longer useful to me.

So far, the results have been disappointing
4/5

*** UPDATE *** Received my replacement; it came with everything, including a user guide, a sealed mouse, hard drive screws, and hard drive cables that were separate from the unit, indicating that they had been installed previously on the old one. br>The unit was relatively simple to set up, though the thin metal chassis cut my finger. It was a breeze to set everything up. The camera and display modes have a lot of controls. I have an HDMI monitor as well as a regular VGA monitor, both of which are set to 1080p resolution. Because the BNC cables on the unit were so close together, it was difficult to screw them down, but I managed to do so. In comparison to the software on older units, the phone app is extremely smooth. I couldn't bear the thought of using a used unit against the product, so I gave it a four-star rating. My only real complaint is that the Tour mode setup isn't as flexible as I'd like. br>br>One caveat - I did discover that the unit is compatible with a wireless mouse, which makes setup a breeze! br>br> The information I can get from it isn't bad. The issue is that my NEW DVR arrived, and I installed a hard drive, spent time connecting it to the cameras, and then turned it on. It appeared immediately, and all of my cameras were functioning properly. Everything seemed to be going well. It warned me that the cameras' resolutions would change, which I ignored. Well, I clicked to log in to the menu system because I wanted to check out the quality of the recording, check the encoding, and so on. It asked for the Admin Password, which I entered blankly at first, then the word password, then went online to look up the default password, which appears to be set up when you first install it. So I went in to do a password reset, and it was going to send the password to someone else's email address, T****@gmail. com. com, but it wasn't mine. This person, it appears, had it first and was in charge of the setup. I got in touch with Amazon customer service, and they're sending me a new one, which should arrive soon. I liked the unit based on what I saw so far. It has a built-in cooling fan, which is one feature I like. The old one from another company was a hard drive killer because it got too hot, which was my complaint.
