Multiple Recording Options: The PoE cam can record continuously or on a schedule when movement is detected, and videos can be saved to a micro SD card (up to 256GB, NOT included), a Reolink NVR, or an FTP server.
Real-Time Motion Alerts: This surveillance camera will send real-time push notifications or alert emails to your device whenever a threat is detected. You can watch live feed, be notified of an emergency, and replay key moments all from the Reolink App or Client at any time and from anywhere.

Questions & Answers

How does it perform in terms of resolving license plates at night (via IR LEDs)?

The answer is that the issue is a matter of resolution, not of day or night. Despite the fact that this camera is "Ultra HD," the wide field-of-view gives it a unique perspective. When the view comes into play, reading plates beyond a certain distance becomes impossible. The good news is that there is a formula for determining whether or not a camera can read a license plate from a certain distance. The magic number to remember is that reading a plate requires at least 40 Pixels Per Foot (PPF) of resolution. The PPF is calculated by multiplying the horizontal camera resolution in pixels by the Field Of View (FOV) in feet at the distance from the camera where the plate is to be read. br>br>A description of how to calculate this for any camera follows, but for those who want to skip ahead to the answer, the answer is that you would only be able to read a license plate if the plate was less than 50 feet from the camera and the vehicle was stopped or moving fairly slowly for this particular ReoLink camera. While illumination is a separate issue, at less than 50 feet and in those conditions, the IR illuminators included with the camera would most likely suffice on a clear night. A vehicle moving too fast, or in foggy or rainy conditions, for example, may be difficult to read. br>br>For more in-depth information, go to http://www.br>br> Continue reading for more in-depth information and suggested alternatives: br>br>Despite being Ultra HD and thus having a horizontal resolution of 3840 pixels, the FOV of this camera is fairly wide at 87. This is 87 degrees with a temperature of 5 degrees. Because the camera's "zoom" is strictly digital (rather than optical), 5 degrees is essentially a fixed number. When you use digital zoom to "zoom in," the camera is essentially faking it by using the same pixels. The optical FOV (or true FOV) is unaffected. br>br>Given the fixed number of 87. For this camera's 5 degree horizontal FOV, you'll need to do some math to convert the horizontal FOV angle at the camera lens into the number of horizontal feet visible at a given distance away; you can do this by using a right triangle formula and then doubling one leg, etc; there are some right-triangle formulas available. Online triangle calculators are available, but at 50 feet from the camera, an 87. At 75 feet from the camera, a 5 degree FOV would give you a horizontal view of 96 feet. A horizontal view of 144 feet would be possible with a 5 degree FOV. Divide the 3840 pixel horizontal camera resolution by 96 ft and 144 ft, respectively, and you get ratios of 40 PPF at 50 feet and 26 PPF at 75 feet. This means that this ReoLink camera should be able to read a license plate from a distance of 50 feet or less. br>br>This, of course, assumes that the vehicle is stationary. There are some additional caveats, such as the camera's frame rate of 20 frames per second. You won't be able to get a clear enough picture to grab a plate if a car is moving faster than a certain speed; the image will be blurry. br>br>It's also a different story when it comes to seeing anything at night; The illuminators that come with these cameras are supposed to be able to reach out to 100 feet, but if you find that they aren't enough, you can buy additional IR illuminators. However, as previously mentioned, your camera must have sufficient resolution to read plates during the day; otherwise, no amount of IR illumination will help at night. Those looking directly at the camera or illuminator will notice the 850 nm IR LEDs emitting a red glow. Finally, if you need to read a plate from a distance of more than 50 feet, Ultra HD cameras with optical zoom and thus a narrower field of view may be worth considering. We're considering Lorex's (LNB9272S), but they're pricey and may not work with the ReoLink NVR, despite its ONVIF compliance. When using a Lorex camera with a ReoLink NVR, for example, it's possible that the optical zoom won't work. br>br>Thank you for your time, and I apologize for the math.

Advertising that is deceptive
3/5

This was purchased to add a camera to my LN8-based LN8-based LN8-based LN8-based LN8-based Even though the product description states that it will record, the 410(8CH NVR) does not. I tried everything and it will display the feed but not record it. Despite the fact that the model number is the same, it does not work on older NVRs, according to some reviews. $75 was squandered, and I was extremely disappointed. Update. br>br> br>I contacted Reolink customer service, who informed me that technical support is not available in the United States or Canada. They said I could call the company in China if I wanted, but I wouldn't. You must pay a fee to an independent company if you require technical assistance. Unfortunately, I waited too long to install it and am now outside of Amazon's 30-day return policy. Reolink has cheated me out of a lot of money. REOLINK PRODUCTS SHOULD NOT BE PURCHASED! GARBAGE FROM CHINA!.

If you don't care about the security of your IP address, this is a great option

It is necessary for him to access the internet. I'd like a camera that I can download from the internet and that can communicate with its mothership to send and receive data.

It's fantastic to have a camera that captures 4K video
5/5

(This information has been updated). (UPDATE)br>I have to hand it over to Reolink's customer service, who reached out to me to help me with my problems and provided a very reasonable solution. To cut a long story short, I got a new NVR and was able to connect the 4K camera. When I compared it to my 5MP camera, it really stood out and impressed me. The picture quality is nice, and I can read license plates as they drive through the culdesac. Installation was simple because the existing holes on the wall lined up with the new camera. br>br>Just in case you didn't know - NVRs from earlier generations are incompatible. When I got the newer NVR, it was a little different than the one I had before. br>br>(Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br> (Previous)br I began with a $500 NVR kit and gradually increased the number of cameras as the quality of the cameras improved. Overall, I was satisfied, though there were a few minor issues. When the 4K camera was released, I was eager to try it out to see how it compared to the 5MP cameras I already had, with the intention of replacing them with additional 4k cameras if I liked it. These D800 cameras did not work with my RLN8-E 8CH NVR, which was a huge disappointment. 410, despite the fact that it is advertised as such. When my 4K camera failed to sync, I was advised to use an older RLN8-based camera. The number 410 was ineffective. Although it stated that it only worked with 8CH NVRs, this is not the case. There is no way to upgrade your NVR without purchasing a brand new one.

The plastic is easily broken
3/5

Overall, I enjoy reolink's offerings. They're simple to operate, and with the addition of 4K cameras, they provide a significant improvement in video quality. Unfortunately, the housing and plate for this dome-style 4K camera are made of plastic. The camera's "ball" is made of metal, but it doesn't help with the plastic mount and makes it appear unsafe. Unfortunately, due to poor design, the plastic will easily break, as mine did. The locking twist mechanism is a nightmare to use. I'd like to see Reolink update this camera to include an all-metal housing for outdoor use. I'm willing to pay a few extra dollars for a well-built product. This will save you time and effort during setup. It appears that with enough wind, sun, and snow, the housing will eventually crack and fall to the ground.

Nah

The image quality was excellent until the lens became fogged. I wouldn't buy these if you plan to put them outside because it was the first night.

Extremely untrustworthy
3/5

I have other Reolink cameras that I enjoy using, but the 820a is a complete waste of money. It misses people and cars in front of it that are less than 10 feet away, even when set to high sensitivity. When it does capture motion, it almost never correctly recognizes people or vehicles, and it almost never records the 4K version. All I usually have is a low-quality image that can't be used to identify anything. My other cameras are fine, so I'll "downgrade" and return this one. I'm extremely disappointed because AI could have and should have been their best feature, but instead it's the worst.

The FOV of this camera is smaller than that of a 5MP camera
3/5

This camera was purchased to replace a 5MP camera that had been installed in the same amount of time. It was easy to connect to the NVR, and the settings are simple to understand. br>br>I bought this camera to get a higher resolution for this specific fixture. I was disappointed to discover that the horizontal field of view on this 4k camera had been significantly reduced. Despite the fact that the new camera is pointed higher than the previous one, it still covers a smaller area. My goal was to show the fronts of the cars as well as the mail box. As you can see, the old camera was successful where the new one failed.

Not even close to the quality of my 5mp or 1080p cameras
3/5

With its 25 frames per second at 4K, I thought this would be a good buy. I installed the camera at night, which is the worst night vision I've ever had, and yet when I turned on the lights, it became even blurrier, worse than my 5mp and 1080p cameras. My no-name brand 5mp 20 zoom ptz camera from eBay is twice as sharp, I tried the Reolink brand in the past with regrets, so I figured I'd give it another shot, but it's a waste of time,br>br>Update ; I just bought a reolink 5mp ptz zoom that is much sharper and has better night vision than this 8mp 4K reolink, so it must have been defective.
