I was attempting to locate a minor gas leak from an oven. The house had a faint odor of gas from time to time. I could smell it coming from the back of the oven, but I couldn't tell if it was a loose connection or a stuck valve based on my sense of smell. br>br>At first, I paid $25 for a cheap gas detector from the PANGAEA brand. The range for this was 0 to 100. Although it had a sensitivity of 10,000 ppm, it was ineffective. I set it to zero outside the house, but the only gas it detected was when I turned on a burner. This forensic detector is incredible. br>br> Outside the house, I reset it to zero. It registered 70 ppm as soon as I brought it inside. It was sensitive enough that I was able to place it over various connections and pin the leak to the oven valve rather than the broiler. It costs four times as much, but it works. It's convenient to be able to zero the readings, change the sensitivity from high to low, and turn off the buzzer. It's small and has a rubberized finish that feels good in the hands. br>br>I wish the display was a little brighter, and the battery compartment is held in place by a screw, which I don't like. I don't think I'll use this very often, so I don't want to leave the batteries in it all the time, and having to find a screwdriver to open the compartment is a hassle.
I found out I had a DOA unit when it arrived from Amazon. I contacted the manufacturer and inquired as to whether I should have it replaced by them or by Amazon. The manufacturer sent a perfectly-fitting replacement right away. a working unit, as well as a bonus gift In every way, I'm very pleased.
My 94-year-old mother believed she had detected gas. Several fittings in her 1950s home were found to be leaking. The gas was turned off, and the fire department arrived with massive fans to clear the air. Everything was fixed in three days by a plumber. Thankfully, no one in the house was a smoker. I decided that knowing that my own house, as well as my two daughters, were safe was worth a hundred dollars. I was very impressed with this detector when I bought it. In my own home, I discovered a small gas valve leak that I was unable to detect. The detector even detected a few ppm of bourbon on my breath after an evening shot of Kentucky bourbon at my daughter's house. It appears to be well-made, with two levels of sensitivity, a large, easy-to-read screen, and a sturdy build. It's a plus to have peace of mind. Borrow one if you can't afford to buy one.
Natural gas can be smelled coming from the fireplace area every now and then. (During the summer, the fireplace is turned off. ) We were never able to pinpoint the exact location of the gas leak. So far, that is. The Gas Leak Detector from Forensics is extremely precise! The Gas Leak Detector is extremely simple to operate. I took the unit outside and put the three batteries that came with it in place. Then I turned on the tester and waited for it to self-calibrate. I removed the tester from the equation and turned it off. I turned the tester back on once I was back in our basement. I placed the sniffer near the fireplace's base. The tester's alarm went off in a matter of seconds! The gas shutoff valve leading to the fireplace was leaking natural gas. The natural gas fireplace safety valve will need to be replaced. For the money, this is a fantastic purchase. I think I'll be able to fix it on my own. Edward M.
I paid a little more to have this device in my inspection belt, and the quality appeared to be worth it until I went to pull it out the second time and discovered that the metal tip had unscrewed itself and the sensor had fallen out. I'm disappointed that I spent nearly $100 on something that now serves no purpose. So much for investing a little more in a dependable tool.
Excellent value for money. Based on the results of other detectors, it appears to be very accurate. I needed something small and tough, and this fit the bill. The only drawback is that in bright light, the brilliant color display is nearly impossible to read. Aside from that, it's a fantastic buy.
Fortunately, no leaks were discovered in my home. I wanted to see if it worked, so I farted into it, and it went crazy, so I guess it does!.
There are no dislikes; she is sensitive and precise. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a high-quality unit at a reasonable price; I do not recommend low-cost units.
