Questions & Answers

Is this a demand pump that runs on 12 volts?

Yes. It pumps up to its maximum pressure (I believe it is 50 psi), then shuts down until a new demand is generated.

Is this fit for human consumption?

It's made to be used as the water pump for the entire water system in campers. There are instructions for sanitizing and winterizing included in the instructions. Non-toxic materials are to be used in accordance with these instructions. For use in potable water systems, toxic antifreeze should be avoided. Any of the materials included with the unit make no mention of the term "food grade." I'm comfortable pumping potable water with it.

Before the pump, I'm going to put in two filters. Should the filters be installed prior to or after the pump? At the faucets, I'm getting a lot of air. ?

A leak in your water lines is indicated by air to the faucets (without strainers on them). Examine each and every one of your connections. If everything is in order, remove one filter before moving on to the next. I only have one filter, which is located near the water source. I hope this has been of assistance.

Pump is fantastic (and likely indestructible)! This pump is fantastic
5/5

This pump is worth three times the price because I live on a boat in Alaska and use it every day for dishes, showers, cooking, and other miscellaneous washing. During the summer, I occasionally have visitors who use the house on a daily basis. After nearly four years, I've finally replaced. 5 years. Except for a possible check valve back flow slight leak, the old one was still running strong. (I'm not sure about this. ) Just once in a while, the pump would turn on even though there was no water running. ) I wanted a spare so that I wouldn't be without water if the pump failed. I now have one, as well as a new pump. Showering with a lot of pressure. Do not spend $350 if you own a boat. Instead, get this pump.

Burning Man's Flojet makes it off the playa! We just returned from Burning Man, where we used this puppy as the foundation for our camp shower (along with the often-overlooked camp shower)
5/5

Triton Camp Shower Heater is one of the products mentioned. The Triton didn't work out so well (it wasn't terrible, but the environment at Burning Man is rough, and this unit simply wasn't up to the task), but the Flojet pump was a TOTAL SUCCESS! Five stars for never faltering in one of the most difficult environments known (alkaline lake bed at 4000 feet with fine playa dust blowing everywhere). We had to remove the heater in the end because it became clogged, but we simply connected the pump to our hose and used solar-powered pumps instead. It totally rocked because we had heated water (we still have a few of those solar camping shower bags to heat water in naturally). The water pressure is extremely high, and the turn-around time is extremely quick. When the shower head is turned off, it never skips a beat. We also used the included strainer to keep the water free of most debris (though it couldn't filter out the playa dust, which is incredibly fine and ultimately caused the heater to fail, sigh). br>br>There's one thing to keep in mind: I used a computer 10A 12V DC power supply when I first tried to use it, due to my electrical ignorance. It didn't work at all, and I assumed it was because pumps and other motors don't work on "switched" DC power, only "direct" DC power (I had no idea there was a difference), so I switched to a 12V battery (I used a small motorcycle battery rated at 235 CCA for $39 at Walmart attached to a trickle charger from Black and Decker for $19), and it never failed us. So make sure you have a direct 12V DC power source for this pump and you'll be fine.

Garden / Chicken Coop Well Pump Last year, it was installed on a 150-year-old, hand-dug, spring-fed well with a depth of 12 feet
5/5

About 6 feet of suction Irrigation tubing with a vertex of 1/2" It is powered by an old car battery and a 20-watt solar panel. Drought drip irrigate a 40' x 60' garden twice a day for 1 hour in the middle of Texas Hill Country. 200 feet of drip line, plus 8 chickens to water. At 35-degrees, the pump can handle one hose outlet at a time. 50psi, 2. The flow rate was measured at 9 gpm. My hand hose sprayer shoots about 30 feet of shoots. Set the pump to a 12 volt timer. I could have used a hose timer instead of turning on the pump. It's been a nice little pump. This pump will be used in place of the old 12v pump in the RV. At 35 psi, the pump turns on, and at 50 psi, it turns off. 12v, fairly quiet - 4 amps. On sunny days, it uses about 8 amps/hours and gets about 10 amps/hours from the panel. I'm looking for a panel that can put out 30/50 watts. It's worth noting that water sprinklers require 5 to 6 gallons per minute. Shower/sink water demand is 5 gpm.

Pumps by Flojet - This pump was purchased in 2013 for a semi-commercial project and has since proven to be of excellent quality
5/5

Showers for campers on the go We used the Flojet to extract water from 55 gallon drums and run it through an on-site water treatment system. a water heater on demand and a spray hose It has never let us down or hesitated in serving us. It self-primes, can run dry for a short period of time, and is nearly indestructible. Give it a good power supply, drain it, and run it dry in the off season (to keep ice from cracking it), and it'll last a lifetime. br>br>The irony is that I recently upgraded to a travel trailer and hadn't given the pump much thought since then (it still works!). Imagine my surprise when I was going through the trailer paperwork and came across the Flojet manuals in the stack. The same pump that has served me well for a camp shower is now supplying pressurized water to my camper via the onboard water tanks. I'm actually relieved to see that the same pump that gave me reliable showers in the middle of BFE is now giving my camper the same Flojet-quality water pressure.
