It'll get the job done, but it's not the best choice
4/5

The metal insert included with the Danco 80004 replacement handle is functionally identical to the plastic Moen piece. So, if the OEM Moen piece isn't holding up, go buy the Danco and throw everything away except the insert, which you can use with your Moen handle.

SLOP and a fundamental engineering flaw that causes the handle to be loose
3/5

I believe Moen's Engineering department made a mistake here. This handle adapter has a fundamental flaw in that there is too much slop between it and the cartridge's brass shaft end. All of the torque applied to the handle (when using the handle) is transferred to the screw by the slop. You'll never be able to tighten the screw enough to withstand the handle's torque. As a result, the retainer screw becomes loose, and the handle becomes loose. br>br>Either they're in cahoots with the plumbing industry to generate service calls, or they simply ignored manufacturing tolerances, but it's a mind-boggling failure that has undoubtedly resulted in thousands of loose shower handles that most people mistake for a loose set screw. br>br>Danco's metal adapter solves this problem by using a small metal washer that is cut to fit snugly against the cartridge shaft.

Enough already with the plastic waste! This has to be made of metal! Isn't this supposed to be metal? I manage an apartment complex with a dozen or so of these Moen PosiTemp valves
3/5

This was the first stumbling block for each and every one of them. Any calcium/lime resistance is picked up by this plastic piece through the handle, causing the shaft to crack within a year or two. br>br>However, that could be a review for most Moen garbage products these days, which are mostly made of plastic. Their lifetime warranty is ineffective, so you're forced to buy these replacement parts anyway. br>br>Congratulations, Moen; I'll be back to buy yet another plastic piece that will break in another unit soon! I'd gladly pay a few cents more to have this in metal.

Let's bring back the metal version
3/5

Let's bring back the metal version. This newer plastic part has a lot of "slop" (play) in its fit on the cartridge shaft, presumably because it was substituted to save a few pennies. The handle must then be rotated several degrees before the shaft begins to rotate, and the same procedure must be followed when turning in the opposite direction. As a retired materials engineer, I have no particular prejudice against plastic mechanical parts - I'd gladly pay a few dollars more to get the better quality, metal part. They have their place, but not in this application.

Design flaws
3/5

To function properly, you'll need metal-to-metal parts. Four months ago, I purchased this replacement part. It's already been proven ineffective. This non- After only a short time, the metallic part no longer fits tightly and slides over the metal piece, stripping itself out and causing the faucet to leak. THIS IS NOT A GOOD ITEM TO BUY. Design flaws. Metal-to-metal parts are required for proper operation.

The issue has been resolved
5/5

My shower valve's cartridge lasted 14 years. Unfortunately, the set screw had corroded and would not budge after such a long time, making it nearly impossible to remove the handle. Drilling was required. New cartridge and handle are now installed, and the machine is ready to go for another 14 years. This kit will be used to keep the vehicle in good working order. This time, I'm going to replace the adapter and screws before they corrode, and you'll know it's time for a new adapter if you notice any play in the handle. Spending $5 and 5 minutes every few years is preferable to working a major 5 hour labor job in the future.

Everything went off without a hitch
5/5

I'm 51 years old and believe that with a few YouTube clicks, I can complete most simple DIY projects. Our 5-year-old Moen shower faucet wouldn't catch and wouldn't let us turn the water on to hot. Unfortunately, the original parts did not last as long as I had hoped, but this was a relatively inexpensive replacement, and it was very easy to install, saving me about $250 over hiring a plumber! The knob is now fully functional and extremely simple to turn.

It is an exact replacement
5/5

When the water flow from the shower handle became inconsistent, I dismantled it and discovered a slightly stripped plastic part, or so I thought. The handle would rotate around the end of the valve. When the valve simply spun without turning off the water, I decided to replace it as well, but it was also worth it to put in this nice new piece for a snug fit. Perfect kit for my needs because it includes the center screw, which was stripped.
