In yes, the replacement knob cover for your broken handle will work. In addition to the stamped marking "KIP 7355 2" on the inside of the broken cover, I also have a shower installed about 2000 with the same stamp. It broke off the tab within the cover" On mine it was the inside tab. During installation, this cover detachably attached to the existing 'knob', so there is no chance of it being damaged. Each year, I must open the cover to tighten the screw causing the temp knob to become more and more loose. The cover becomes loose after repeated removal if this is done a number of times.
