You make a great point! With the Skil 3380 bench grinder, you can grind in two directions. This motor has a power of 1 amp and a horsepower of 1/3.
That's a given! Using two 5/16" by 2-inch bolts, a flat washer, and a locknut I attached the door to the house It fits like the stand was made for the grinder! Simply add a washer to each bolt and it fits like a glove!
It won't preserve the temper on blades when you use this type of high speed dry grinder. Your task is to find a wet grinder that runs slowly. Then, polish the steel with a leather strop with a polishing compound (jeweler's rouge is a little less aggressive than what I prefer for steel, but it will still work). Using a whetstone with graduated grits from around 3000 onward will make you faster at whetstone part A 1500-year-old person might translate this as 9000 The steps consist of 2000 grits.
I own a unit that has an arbor (shaft) of 1/2" in diameter.

In a nutshell, I think it must be poor quality, like the armature being bent or both stones, which seems odd, that come with the grinder are defective. Machine may not even last a year before it burns out due to its wobbling. This video shows how to do it. In addition to a SKIL 1/2" drill and a SKIL circular saw that I have had for over 30 years, that is why I bought this grinder. The difference is that those tools were made in Japan and the Chinese junk grinder I bought is made in China. The fact that SKIL would give their name to such junky merchandise is sad.
I have been planning to purchase this bench grinder for quite some time. My wire wheel can be used to sharpen lawn mower blades as well as clean up old rusty bolts and items. You get a lot for the price. There was one slight issue, the clear fold down guards arrived cracked in their boxes. Rather than having the guards hang loose in the box, it would be nice if they packaged them separately. Was it possible that I received an item that another returned to me?.
The mistake I made was my own. One of the other ones I bought was burnt out, so I bought another one. However, I had rubbed the wheel guard with a wire brush only barely touching the left side of the body. The motor should be turned off, but just enough for it to stay off. My old one was damaged, so I ordered a new one. I learned the old one was not broken in the process of removing it from the bench. This is what I did I put the wire brush wheel back on, but left the guard off. It now works perfectly. If I'm going to clean up rusting metal, I don't need the guard anyway. It is also worth noting that many older grinders had no wheel guards. The old man's workshop will be enriched by this grinder. On Amazon, you can find the best deal. I'm Chuck.
The price is quite cheap for a grinder compared to some of the other brands, but the quality seems decent. For temporary use, I mounted it on a piece of wood, screwed that into my bench, then positioned the wood on top as I normally would. The only time I have used it is twice, but it works well. Once those two screws are removed, I put the device back on the shelf. Although the rest of the machine seems to function rather well, if it were adjustable and I could set an angle to it, I would probably achieve In spite of that, I tried to maintain as much stability as possible and I'm happy with the result.
Generally the item looks to be of good quality. However, like other reviews, mine came with a cracked eye protector about three inches long, and it had a hairline crack inside it. There is no doubt that it will eventually spread during use up to the point of breaking. It would have been better if Skil had used better quality lens material for this crucial In view of the fact that I have only just taken the product out of the box and have yet to test it, I cannot comment on performance or durability. I wish you the best of luck if you would like to mail me a replacement lens from Skil. An example or two would be appreciated. If you could please assist me, it would be greatly appreciated as it is not worth sending back the entire item to Amazon for It is probable that the cracked lens of this car would be worse than the one in the boat.
The fine wheel can be used in conjunction with the coarse Smoother running is what I like about the fine wheel. A slight vibration appears to be present on the coarse wheel. The vibration isn't too bad (I have had brand new name brands I've replaced a worn wheel with at work with worse vibration) after using it for a few hours the damage goes away, and it wears smooth and evenly and becomes completely smooth. My coarse wheel will be replaced with a wire wheel, so this is not an issue for I think that this grinder is a very nice little piece. Apart from the fact that the led lights are mounted in the plastic cover that may get in the way of maneuvering anything you are working with, the led lights are a nice feature. It may be possible to modify the cover and keep the light while removing the cover. It is well-suited for a residential type of use and is a handy machine to have in my home. I never realized how much I could benefit from having one until I got it and I used it on the night it arrived without even planning on it. You can't go wrong with an investment this good!.
There is a vibrating motor in this unit. In order to install wire wheels on this bench grinder, I purchased a second identical unit of the same brand and model. The newly ordered cast iron bases were used to install both bench grinders. With the pressure of the pre-grinder, this grinder vibrated heavily A set of stone grinder wheels was installed. It's smooth as glass on my first bench grinder I've owned for years. This new order retained the stone wheels, but I replaced them with wire wheels and still it vibrated, so it appears that the motor is For the three leg cast iron bases, I ordered vibration dampening feet. I hope that this will make it better.
I am using it for the first time. Wire wheeling and polishing don't occur to me with this, but rather wire wheeling. Despite its power, this piece of equipment will bog down easily if you have to lean into it at all. The better unit would be one with more power or one with an 8-inch display. It's very hard to work with tool rests I found the glasses very narrow and they don't adjust.
