Questions & Answers

Which model of Jet's grinder should I compare to the other, model 577102, whose specifications seem almost identical except for ?

Compared with 577102, this grinder is built to a much higher standard. 1) The wheel flanges on this grinder are machined and large, while 577102 has stamped steel flanges that are smaller and cheaper. In other words, what does this You can always expect this grinder to run truer wheels. far superior to the motor on 577102, equal written specifications do not always equate to equal durability and performance. As a pre-production model, this grinder has the following features Equipped with 120 volts and can be configured to run on 220 volts as well. This means the motor will last longer and it will start more easily when it is operated There is no alternative to 120 volts in the 577102. Three) There are the exhaust ports, the ones on the 577102 run away behind each wheel of the grinder to an "L." The exhaust ports for this grinder are along the back/side. With the longer port length, this one is more convenient for dust collection systems, and it will encourage you not to catch anything on fire. On Jet's website, you'll find two manuals that explain everything in more detail, with pictures. The switch on this grinder has a removable lock out, whereas 577102 has a cheaper In addition to being OSHA approved, the grinder is also OSHA approved for industries where the 577102 is not. This is apparently due to the power switch OSHA is picky about power switches, which must be large, red, and easily accessible.

Can you tell me what the RPM of this grinder is?

It has a listed rotation speed of 3600 at 60hz, 11 amps at 115V, 5.5 lbs. Should you choose to change the wiring configuration to 230V, the unit has a 5 amp rating at 230V. It comes set up for 115-volt operation, but a simple change can be made by following the manual provided. Originally I was going to do that but didn't bother since this grinder is an absolute beast at 115 volts. It is used with a VanSant MultiTool Belt grinder attachment for steel and other metals Fabrication of other metal pieces, deburring, and some shaping are also included. You can also use the 60 grit on the other side of the grinder for a variety of grinding My usage of it has not been slowed down by its ability to become up to speed almost immediately. I have had no complaints about this machine so far. In comparison with a mainland republic of China unit, this is a Taiwan-made machine. I hope you found this helpful!

Shaft size means the diameter of the shaft?

Using a bench grinder, the shaft diameter is five eighths of an inch.

Can you tell me if this is a variable or single speed drive?

It is a smooth and powerful motor with a single speed

This isn't quite what I was looking There have been quite a few 10" $100 cards that I've seen
3/5

For the last 40 years, I have been grinding on big box store type bench grinders, and I hope to move up a few steps in precision by purchasing Suppose $1000 is withdrawn. The cost of an industrial quality grinder like the Baldor, which is well over $1,000, was out of my price range, and I was hoping the JET would fill the gap between the cheap big box and real The answer to that question is no. As I have been doing a lot of home machining and HSS, carbide, tool steel, and HSS sharpening, I needed a quality grinder. begin with, the tool rests were nearly useless. The edges of the front and back side were not parallel with the grinding wheel, which made it impossible to dress the wheel parallel to the rotation axis. Since I had half expected that the tool rests would be problematic, I made my own out of 1/4 steel plate and bolted them to the wheel guard. Now the front and back edges of the tool rest were parallel to the axis of rotation, but the flat surface sloped downward. After further investigation, I found that the cast iron wheel guard was poorly machined and did not sit flat on the end of the grinder, it was canted off vertical by at least three degrees. It is 4 degrees Celsius. It was easy to place it on my milling machine and fit it up. After that, I installed a new left wheel for sharpening carbide cutting tools, and the wheel wobbled terribly. The wobble refused to go away no matter how the wheel or the heavy machined washers were rotated in relation to the shaft. Ahead of the end of the month I finished up an arbor and checked the washers on my lathe. The recommended sequence is 003. I'm running the 005 race- You'll need to fill each out. The wobble has since been reduced to an acceptable level and I turned the wheels flat. Ultimately, I had to spend a whole day figuring out where all the bugs resided in this machine. corrected the weaknesses and I expect that this grinder will serve my needs just fine. It is more like a grinder kit than a finished product. If all you will be doing with it is sharpening lawn mower blades, it will do the job. It will be just as effective as the $80 grinder, though. This grinder won't provide precision for sharpening fine steel. You'll have to work at it if you need it.

A high standard of industrial quality
5/5

After working for many years in industries, I decided to switch careers. Those floor grinders they used were the top of the line 12" Baldor machines. A good pair of shoes can't be beat. Aside from costing thousands of dollars, they are also the most luxurious you can get. Even if you are just a retired home owner like me, the purchase of such a shop will be unaffordable or unjustifiable. In order to find a used grinder, I searched online. However, you will still have to pay an arm and a leg for an excellent used version. A few minutes later, I saw this The product is brand new at a very reasonable price. I've had it on my wish list for a whole year, having observed all of After much deliberation, I've finally made up my mind to The decision was a good one for me. The vehicle I have now has been with me for 6 months, but it runs like another Baldor motor I used to own. As soon as the switch is pressed, it is instantly turned The startup cannot drag while you wait for momentum to build up so you can begin working. Before you are able to take your hand off the switch, this thing will be ready. There has yet to be any bogging down of this grinder. This grinder will not last for industrial use, but I think it will work fine for the home owner for life as long as it is not exceeded. Be aware that this grinder comes in two versions. This one is approximately one hundred dollars less expensive and does not have cast iron guards around the wheels, but simply There is also a cheaper on/off switch on this one. I just thought I should let you know.

It is an impressive piece of equipment, it works well! As you know, I bought this to use with Trick Tools Multitool Belt and it has been half a month since I bought it A tool for combining hard drives
5/5

Another grinder that I owned was an older Clark 8" 3450-rpm model. Bench grinder with a maximum power of 3/4 horsepower at 0 amps. With its 2" x 36" belt sander, you couldn't do much metal deburring or corner shaping for anything over 1/8" in thickness gauge without it bogged As the work I planned on doing with the Trick Tools multitool was too much for it, I researched Jet's IBG model and decided that it was most suitable for my needs. This is a 8 inch bench grinder model that has 1 hp. The Jet IBG-500 should be unpacked and assembled after receipt and assembly As I amounted the Multitool to the 8 I have to admit that I was impressed with the fit, finish, and quality of construction When I worked in two different fabrication shops a few years ago, I ran and worked with some really old Baldor heavy industrial bench grinders, so I have some familiarity with what makes a superior grinder. had to tweak the wheel set up and balance a bit, but following their directions on it, I got it to run smoothly and quietly. I have not had any issues running either the Multitool or 8" wheel with strain on the motor or slow down on the My experience with 11ga has been limited to date. The belt grinder produced clean results when grinding 1/2" bar plate mild carbon steel without so much as a bog down or strain on the motor. Upon switching on, the motor quickly winds up to full speed, maintains it for the duration of your work and maintains it during the entire work day. All in all, I highly recommend it to a small shop, this is one you won't regret buying! It may take me a couple of days to edit and add some.
