Questions & Answers

Are there any limitations to the use of this machine in France? Would you please elaborate on your reply? Thank you. ?

No reason would be given for not doing so. The cost of shipping to France might be high. The reason why I do not understand is that I do not know. If you are shipping to France, it can be quite expensive.

Do the plunge cuts for knife bevels involve the belt tracking far enough to the left and right?

The exact opposite is true. use Dymalux birch composite knife scales to warm up before working with steel slabs, but I can't achieve an even plunge line on each side. Dymalux is layered colors, which makes it easy to see what you are doing as you work. In order for the Plamgren to be functional, it needs a way to track the belt. Furthermore, I find the surface to be a bit bumpy when A glass or ceramic tile would make more sense to me.

Is there a universal motor in it? What are the requirements for hooking up the router speed control to it, and what can I do to rewiring it to run reversed?

You don't want to rewire it so the dust will go the opposite way, as that will shoot it out to the ground. As a result, a workpiece can fly into your face instead of hitting the ground if it is reversed.

This grinder is great for a beginner
4/5

A knife making set that I bought to help me. We had to make a few changes. In the first place, the gap between the guard and the drive wheel between the two is not wide enough to load a belt of either 60 grit or 40 grit. I had to remove the drive wheel and grind out the guard in order to widen the gap. The problem has been resolved. A portion of the right side of the rap around guide plate has also been cut off for quick removal of the grinding belt. In addition, the unnecessary right side belt guard has been removed. The machine is now ready for use. As of now, I have already ground two knives and I am happy with what I have achieved.
I have now added a larger guideplate to allow for a better grip on the grinding wheel.
I do not compare this machine to a professional 2" x 27" grinder, but it is a very good hobby or starter machine anyway. A little machine like this is really appealing to me.

This is my review of the Palmgren 2" x 42" Belt, 6" Disc bench finishing machine
4/5

After 3 years of bladesmithing and about 5 budget grinders, this is without a doubt the best grinder I have ever used. A word of warning if you don't take care, it will just eat your blades if you work the spine of your blades well. The belts are also driven directly instead of using an additional drive belt to increase belt rotation speed. A very handy feature is that you can position the arm horizontally and use the bottom wheel to remove a substantial amount of material, followed by a twist of an Allen key to switch the position from horizontal to vertical for using Having said that, this is an excellent machine for beginners or those looking to upgrade their grinders. There was one problem with the one I bought, and that was the housing was assembled so tight on the lower wheel that it wasn't going to fit. As a result, it would not work with anything less than the 80 grit belts included, and I had to use a small detail sander to buff the housing down. My apologies to the manufacturer because I informed them of this problem and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it slipped through quality control.

Blade making is possible with more than ample power
5/5

From a 1x30 to a 1x40, this is a significant upgrade. It's bigger than the 1/3 hp 1x30 motor and stronger even that way. I feared it would be underpowered, and it's not at all , it's a lot stronger. The belts you're gonna use like 36 grit are going to be thicker so you'll have to modify the setup. In lieu of cutting the bottom of the housing or grinding it with an angle grinder, I instead used the 36 grit ceramic belt and worked it back and forth for about 15 minutes in the upright position, removing enough material for it to fit perfectly without altering the structural integrity. It is not necessary to modify the housing in that way. Basically, I bought a set of six ceramic belts from Red Label Abrasives off of Amazon and thought I'd use one belt to grind down my console housing, but I couldn't feel any difference in the belt. If you buy this machine before you spend $450 on the jet 2x42, I promise you won't be disappointed. I have been making knives for about a decade, and this new step up from 1x30 puts you at the top of the knife making game.

In the case of knife makers
4/5

You can obtain smooth bevels by buying a ceramic glass platten. While belt sanders are generally good for knife making, they do need to be modified to be more useful. The pros are Using it for concave bevels is easy due to two reasons a) it's powerful enough for some pressure without slowing the belt down and b) it tips back and allows you to use the bottom wheel. 3) Its price is too high

Cons 1) the platten is not flat, which in turn affects the flatness of the bevel. JB Welding will ensure smoother bevels, so I plan to apply a ceramic glass plate on top. 2) You have to remove the table every time you want to change belts because there are no arrows that indicate 90 degrees on the belt side. You also have to level the table again as there are no detents for indicating 90 degrees. 3) If you intend to use belts with grits lower than 80 (60, 36, etc. ), then you will have to remove the lower edge of the wheel shield. using a 60 grit belt, but it didn't move at all. 4) the bolts that hold the disc sander table in place are made of plastic and have difficulty holding the table in position when it is pressed. As far as grinders go, this is not a bad one. The version I received is a white/blue version instead of the all black model shown in the photo, but that is not a problem for Knife makers new to the craft should take a look at this, but go for the ceramic glass plate.

It will not align, a junk file
3/5

The belt will not align with my rollers and stay on them. It is possible to align the top roller, but I could not find any options to align the bottom roller, according to the manual. In this case, the top will stay in place, however the bottom wants to veer to the inside and touch Despite the absence of a manual, it was installed. A reached out to the seller twice and they only responded with an automated message that I would be contacted. Never received a response from the seller. There are other sanders out there that you should consider.

This grinder would be perfect for someone who is just starting out! For those just getting into knifemaking, this is a great grinder to have
4/5

At this price it is just too good to beat, it is a high-quality machine that is less than $600, and that is the only 2" wide belt grinder under that price. A small modification must be made to the dust shield at the back of the machine for courser grit belts under 80 grit. (I trimmed the bottom with a dremel) the only thing that can use improvement is the "tool table". I thought that it was aluminum, but mine is not 100% accurate, so it wasn't As well as the top of the tool table chipping (it had been painted a little too high, so when I wiped my hand over the surface, I found that some of the high edges came Although it is a dealbreaker for the price, none of it is crucial. The quality of this product is great, and I am very happy with it!.

There's nothing to worry about
3/5

Apparently the platen is not flat and is made of thinner metal, so I had to reinforce it with a platen of steel of the appropriate In addition, the platen is too wide for plunge cutting, so that's a drawback as well. My sander would not take a 60 grit ceramic belt because the safety guard was so close to the wheel. I had to cut it away to use a 60 grit belt. Moreover, it is only about 60% as powerful as I had hoped, which is why I accidentally cause the belt to stop by putting too much pressure on it, but that is a skill I am learning, so the problem is less frequent now. Other than that, I can say that it works and is a LOT quieter than my 4 x 36.
