Questions & Answers

What is the manufacturer on this? Is it Taiwan or China?

It only makes sense to go to China. The work on the tool rests was rough and hard and I didn't like the finish.

Which of these two devices is different? Has the 577101 changed?

Both 577126 and 5777101 come with two grinding wheels. 577126 is equipped with both a grinding wheel and wire wheel.

Are there any mounting holes near the base's overall length? If not, the distance between the mounting holes would be helpful. Thanks so much?

I have an old one that's about 15 years old, so I am unsure of its dimensions. Based on the dimensions of the base, about 7 5/8 inches wide, and 7 1/2 inches apart, they are only a little over 3/8 inch wide.

Can you tell me how big the dust ports are?

In my grinder, there are a total of eight dust ports measuring approximately 1 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches.

Disappointed to the point of being angry
3/5

It would be nice to return this grinder, but I was not notified that my employee had thrown away the original packaging. Neither the wheels nor the side faces can stay squarely seated until we maintain the wheels to be true. There is another major problem with the grinder, which runs in reverse rotation, not every time but you will never know when it is going to run in the correct rotation or reverse rotation and cause the flange nuts to loosen as a result. Furthermore, only after a few minutes of operation does the motor get very hot. According to me, this grinder is unreliable and will do more harm than good.

This tank has a good amount of power, is heavy and compact, and has no stalls
5/5

died recently, so as I remembered this industrial duty jet grinder from my toolroom days, I decided to purchase it despite the higher price as I was often frustrated with the cheap ones not being powerful enough. I am so impressed with how smooth and quiet this grinder is, it is built like a tank with no vibration or noise. All non-industrial devices sold to the masses will have different amplification. Do not base your decision on the advertised amps. In comparison with my old cheaper grinder and the other grinder I've used, this new 5 amp grinder seems to produce twice the torque -- or even more. Many / most industrial products typically do not overrate their power, based on what I've seen. In this motor, there is a lot of copper. The 6 " size rolling wheels are my choice over the standard 8" size rolling wheels due to the fact that the surface speed is not too fast and 3/3 more torque is produced Besides the industrial motor's smaller size, the tires' diameter is smaller than the motor's. This is important for sharpening mower blades as they are held in either direction and held off It is a great grinder that you will not be disappointed with. There was one oddity, the tool rest surfaces were not ground smooth but left in raw casting form instead. Before I installed them, I put them on my belt sander and they cleaned up well.

The program runs smooth and is not shaky
4/5

My prior Dewalt 8" bench grinder was faulty, so I returned it to buy the Jet 6" bench grinder. I don't even have to bolt this unit down, it just sits on the bench. I don't have to worry about vibrations coming from it. rests and base are rough, and I mean that in the most polite way possible. In fact, it was more important to me to use it as a wire wheel, since I thought it would be helpful. There was an issue with this, which I dealt with. The cheaper unit had two grinding stones on it, and I thought I was saving money on that over the wire wheel model also available. Unfortunately, the wire wheel requires a spacer, which is not included in the package. As a result, I had to dig around for a spacer/washer to get my wire wheel moving. In the end, I don't see the point of selling a unit as either a wire wheel or grinder, but it is not such a big deal. As far as power is concerned, it depends on how much I press forward, but if I do too much, then it can bog down, but it can also rip things out of your hands as well. Considering that it's a 6" grinder, I think it's quite acceptable. We would have given it five stars if it included the proper spacer for a wire wheel and the finish on the base and rest.

It is in an unacceptably bad state of repair
3/5

Initially, I purchased this with the intention of using it for welding setups. When it arrived, I attempted to remove the wheel cover on the side with the coarse grinding wheel so that I could replace the wheel with a wire brush to clean off mill scale before It's not happening. The event will not take place. The wheel cover screws on the machine I received were so tight that they were impossible to remove, Additionally, the motor housing was painted over with flaking paint. This is not impressive to me. It's back to square one. My phone didn't even turn on even though it was turned.

I'm glad it worked out after some tweaking
4/5

The original reason I chose the Jet 6" bench grinder instead of a cheaper alternative was because of the positive reviews posted previously about the smoothness and adequate power that it offers. As I received mine and tried it out for the first time, one of the wheels had a considerable wobble/vibration. I noticed that the fine wheel on the left had a slight wobble, but otherwise seemed fine. Although the course wheel on the right did wobble by about 1/8" at its outer circumference, it was still trackable. It caused the machine to make an annoying noise / vibration at full speed and to shiver on windy days, for a brief period of time of about 1/3 speed. The engine is speeding up and slowing down. Turn the page. At this point, however, I will need to say that other than the wobble problem, the grinder seems to be very well made and is incredibly beefy. I was very impressed with how well the wheels and tool rests were cast in iron. These models are much better than cheaper ones which use stamped sheet metal. Despite the weight of the unit, it did not move from its rubber feet while I had it sitting on my workbench for regular use. I found the motor to be very powerful and did not bog down at all with anything normal. In hopes that the machine would live up to earlier reviews in regards to smoothness, I returned the machine to Amazon for a return (which went very smoothly). This is a wheel with a larger diameter flat surface on the inside (against the wheel) and a smaller diameter flat surface on the outside (against the nut or shaft shoulder). There is an offset of about 1/8". By the time you reach 6 inches, even a little bit of difference in parallelism will cause a big wobble by the time the two surfaces are parallel. In this case, I contacted Jet customer service and they agreed to send me four new stamped I noticed that the new flange washers looked a lot better than the originals when they arrived. My experience with installing them was that they helped in some ways. Last but not least, because I thought the stock supplied wheels might not be perfectly flat/round either, I lightly dressed the sides and faces of the wheels with a diamond wheel dresser. A lot of help was also provided by this. As of now, the system is running smoothly. It's probably around 98%, which is considered to be acceptable. Those who want to use a wire brush can also apply this "tweak" As soon as I got the machine, I was pleased to see that the wheel housings had adequate space to run a wide face wire brush on one side, so I went out and bought a After I installed it, I realized that the space was barely enough to mount a wire wheel, and that the original supplied flanges would not handle the installation. I consider my "work" to be I took a couple of the thinnest grade-d screws I could find from the hardware store and got around the problem This is the only set of flat washers I could find that are 8 7/16" in diameter. There came a point when I had to go to 2 different places because the ones at Aubuchon Hardware were a little thinner than the ones at Ace, which actually made a difference. To ensure the wires do not rub on the inside of the housing, the wide face wheel has to be perfectly centered. It is "supposed" that a 7/16" flat washer (made to go on a 7/16" bolt) is 1/2" inside diameter. Although washers are not precision fitted, the stamp will often leave a little less clearance because washers are not precision fitted. With a 1/2" washer (made to fit a 1/2" bolt), you will end up with too much "slop," so you should get a 7/16" washer and smooth down the inside of it The 1/2" shaft will fit perfectly since you can get a perfect fit using this method. The use of washers on either side of a narrow-face wire wheel is likely to work well if you wish to use a wheel with a narrow face. If you go to the hardware store, be sure you look through the bin to find the ones that are the flattest / thinnest (for wheel wide face) as there are more variations than you might anticipate. It is possible that the nut/shaft will fail due to wear or breakage as well. There are right-handed threads on one side of a wheel that hold it in place. Thread is on the right-hand side and the other side is on the left-hand side You can find an example of this thread here. If the wheels are loose/off at the same time while changing wheels, it can be difficult to tighten down the nuts because you have to tighten one but loosen the other. Therefore when the wheels are tightened down you have to loosen the nut and then tighten it. You can make a mistake if you look at the left end of the shaft. There is a slot there that fits a If the shaft had a flat for a wrench or a detent to lock the shaft (like on an angle grinder or drill tool) I would have thought it would have worked better, but I have never seen such a feature on a bench grinder. There is nothing specifically stated in the instruction booklet about how to hold the other wheel, but if it doesn't already feel tight, or if it is not quite as tight as the one you are working on, then you are out of luck. It is possible to tighten the nuts using a 5/16" screwdriver, but it is difficult to secure them using only a wrench and a screwdriver. I'm going to order a long handled 5/16" flat head screwdriver for the bench grinder as soon as I have time. This way I'll be able to stick the shaft in the slot and rest the handle on the bench for a solid hold while tightening the wheel nuts.

One last thing that may have been better conceived is the eye guard adjustment. Each adjustment has a nice little hand knob, which is great, but the other side of the fastener uses a #3 Phillips screw instead. In other words, even if your handy-dandy device makes matters easier for you With this handy adjustable knob you only need to use a screwdriver to make the adjustments. I will not hesitate to open the little drawers at the hardware store next time I go there to find some kind of 1/4-inch tube Size 5-20 (1/2" - 2" 3) female wing- Threaded section measuring 34" long There is a knob or nut that can be used to adjust this by hand. Please let me know if this helps you.

The choice is great, and the operation is smooth
5/5

Having two JET grinders in one year has been both rewarding and exciting. My dad had a 6" JW Tool grinder that was 50 years old and worn out. I replaced it with this new one. The larger 8" JET #578008 is what I bought. I will use this second one with the 6" wire and polishing wheels so that I do not have to go back and forth between the 8" and the 6", etc. As I had previously replaced the wheels of the old JW Tools grinder, I kept them. I have used both of these grinders simply sitting on my bench. Weighing more than I expected for their size, they are heavy. It is extremely smooth, and virtually no vibration is present even when using both wire wheels and grinding wheels. Metal work is one of the things I do quite a bit. These are both very good JET grinders and I highly recommend them.
