What are the angles of cutting tools for lathes?

have to know exactly the angle of grinding, not so much. The tool rest does not have any When sharpening your tool, place the edge on the grinding wheel after setting it on the rest, and by turning it on you will be able to match the angle on your tool.

This is for use with a bench grinder 6" in diameter. The thought of having one of these for each wheel came to me, however I did not want to pay for two, so I split the 6" track into two equal pieces, drilled some additional mounting holes, and screwed them As you can see in the photos, I built a mounting platform mounted on full extension drawer slides for ease of access, like when I'm doing mower blades, while also keeping it in place with a locking pin. In my opinion, the tool rest should be of adequate quality and should be a great a home tool rest for those who are not skilled in hand tooling.

My sharpening system is currently missing a key component
5/5

In a nutshell, The sharpening of chisels isn't something I'm very good at. When my chisels wear out to the point where I cannot fix them, I will often give up and buy new ones because they have been damaged quite When I bought a grinder, I thought it would improve things, but the tool rest was awful and I often mangled them. Purchasing this and putting it all together worked out well. It was possible for me to make a chisel have a mirror edge from a really worn out one. The tool rest was perfect for holding chisels and I was able to take pictures and make a video of how I used it. I'm somewhat less awful, but I'm able to use my chisels again. Here is the gist of the process - there are a lot of photos, but there aren't any captions. Watch the video An example of how the jig can be used. Afterwards, I cool the blade with water, which I am just off camera. Repeat. Due to its wear and crooked beginnings, this chisel was going to take some time to ground. Photos 1 and 2 Here is the broken chisel that I am repairing. A small amount of adhesive is stuck on the blade. It's in bad shape. The following two photos are from Photo
Photo 3 Squaring up the chisel in the holder using a speed square An installation of the tool rest on a grinder. During the grinding process, I placed a 3/4" thick board between the grinder and the table. There are a variety of chisels you can use with the angle and distance of the blade. Because the tool can be moved so many different ways and distances from the wheel, it's a little tricky to figure out the angle. Photos 5 and 6 It's a bit short here. I plan to reinstall it later and extend it a bit. The system has been working just fine so I am not in a hurry to replace it. A photo of the sixth step in the process I am pleased with the result. It isn't perfect, but it is This is the seventh photo In this picture, the hollow grind can be seen. The photograph on page 8 shows a To find out how I did, I looked from an angle. My watch said it was 25 degrees instead of 20. I was off. As far as I am concerned, it is suitable for my needs, and if there are any problems, I can fix them The following is a photo of Photo Please let me know how to fix this! A Diameter of 1-Inch My extra course diamond stone has been used for a long time, so it may be closer to a course than a course now. I use continuous diamond stones in a course, then fine, then extra fine, and ultra fine. As you can see, I have attached several sheets of sandpaper to each side of a 12x12 granite tile with spray adhesive. The tile is glued to an old piece of plywood with a couple of shims added on the sides to The lubricant is water in a spray bottle with a drop of dish soap. The following is a picture of Photo The sharpening jig is angled at an appropriate angle. The following are photos from Photo 11 This 16-dollar jig took me nearly two hours to construct and I was terrible at freehand. Although it is not as pretty as a fancy expensive model, at least it is faster than freehand and can do the job. Coarse diamond stones have their initial bevel. The wire is wavy because the grind is uneven and you can see it at the top. It's the operator's job to handle that. In photo 15, I tried to reach close enough, and I hope I'll get better with practice. The fine diamond stone was then placed on the table
Photo We are after the super extra fine stone of diamonds. There is already a sharp edge to it. The following is a screenshot from Photo We are taking the sandpaper through finer and finer grits. Using 7000 grit polishing paper, I started at 1200 grit and finished at 1200 grit. Because it doesn't appear in my order history, I think I bought it from Amazon, but I got ultrafine polishing paper from Amazon. Photos 20 and 21 I am finished! There is a mirror edge to it and it is extremely sharp. That's literally true! Be sure to look at the reflectance of the pencil on you enjoyed reading this, I wanted to show you how useful this jig was for me in sharpening my chisels and hand planes because for me it was the missing piece that enabled me to effectively sharpen them.

I like the concept of the design There is no point in being mediocre when reality is worse
3/5

Even though this jig appears to have good potential, after working too many hours to mount my grinder and modify the jig base so that I can use it, I have to report that interested viewers should keep looking for a similar but well-made jig. I have executed a Sometimes it's the little things that mean the most. It is clear from the product beauty shots that a woodworking chisel has been ground on a carbide wheel (instead of a friable wheel), which will burn the steel and remove its There is an issue with the base mount and it has to be modified to fit possibly the most popular Delta grinder. Any serious worker, however, will find it difficult to determine the approach angle with the degrees of freedom available. It is very disappointing that the articulating platform locking levers are so flimsy and ineffective. One star would have been appropriate for this function. We're sorry to hear that!.

It is kind of like a beta test for a promising product, to which I have mixed feelings
3/5

Despite its great concept, the execution does not live up to it. Using the example above, let's look at Problem A strong breeze can blow the lower cam off-center, since the design places a lot of leverage on the lower cam. A rod must be placed through the track so it looks like an angle bracket. At the bracket on top, there is a lot of angle adjustment The bottom one doesn't need to be able to pivot either. In order to give this bracket a better grip, I plan to modify the existing bracket. The following are problems There is no thumbscrew for the lower track and it is actually on the wrong side. You can see it even in one of the photos, where it was flipped around backwards so that they could position the chisel. The back of this piece will probably end up screwed on to a board to which you can easily move the rest and fix it in place as you need it. To reach the extra height, it would be necessary to lower the bottom cam position as far as possible, so that the rest would be positioned around the midpoint of the abrasive wheel on an 8-inch The angle of the rest can't be lowered lower than about 50 degrees without having the tang of a chisel hit You are more likely to get hurt if you have a thick handle and a short blade. It is necessary to remove the first cam and turn the rest of the knob so that it is wheel-driven in order to fix the problem Sadly, this means you have to turn off the grinder in order to gain access to the thumbscrew to make adjustments. This is Problem Despite being made of metal, the screws provided are extremely soft. Although I was very careful and pre-warned one of them, two of them pulled out without adequate notice The first step is to drill a pilot hole. As a result of cutting a straight slot with a file, only one of them could be screwed. I feel like this is a product that was designed, built, and shipped without ever being tested in any way.

I like it a lot
4/5

This is excellent. The range of travel is long enough that it can also sharpen straight knives. Despite the joints' fragility, they are sturdy and reliable. The following recommendation stands out In addition to the four holes, four screws enclose the base. Even if it is only so you have more choices for the 4 screws, it would be better with six holes. As a result of the place in which the grinder is located, I was only able to turn one of the two screws.

Not as sturdy as it should be
4/5

Due to the value of the product, I gave it a 4 star rating instead of my original 3 stars. I find it to be a little flimsy, but it is okay. of the device have a cheap feel to them, and overall the device is very light in weight. Although that was true, I still bought a second one because it was better than the stock, too rest I owned.
