Approximately 1/4" of Shank is used on this tool. For the description, I've submitted a correction. There will hopefully be a release in the near future.
In my case, the shaft was 1/4 inch. It has been a great experience so far.

The Amana cutter fits the bill for flattening a 'spoilboard'. There are many carbide cutters on the market that can do this, but I could not find any that were cheaper than this model. When I bought a CNC router from Rockler they did not carry the 1/4" shaft router bit I needed to flatten my spoil board. I have used this Amana bit once and it worked great. In my situation, the spoilboard will need to be resurfaced only one or two times per year, so I am not interested in an expensive cutterhead with multiple 4 sided carbide chip channels. I might have a different standpoint if I worked in a production shop with heavy equipment requirements.
There is no better spoil board surfacer than this bit. Compared to this one, I had one that had been about $5 cheaper. My sawdust clumped up and it refused to vacuum the MDF and the sawdust burned. The open area on this bit is larger and taller which helps prevent dust from building up and make.
The plane provided nice clean cuts I used it to reduce a walnut slab's thickness from 3" to 2". I was very pleased with the results. I couldn't be more pleased. The finish held up well before I finished it. I was worried about it getting dull before I finished it. As well as planed the two other pieces of wood, I also planed two other wood pieces with different hardnesses. Cutting through wood like butter was no problem for it. Before I used the sander, I didn't realize how hard the wood was. I had to use 60 grit to get any of it.
The package was in good condition when it arrived. This morning, I tried out a new bit on a maple stump to make it level. I was able to use it with a handheld router without any problems. I would buy from them.
In terms of price and performance, it is very affordable. It can be used on both wood and epoxy with almost no tear-out, burning, etc. Do yourself a favor and pick up this bad boy if you are using a standard small straight bit to flatten (like I was). have to spend an hour or more getting router marks out, but after getting this bit I can get them out in just a few minutes!.
It made the production of the spoil board so much faster. I have had this bit for quite some time now, and it has been doing quite a lot for me. In addition, I use it for flattening boards and I can use it with any kind of wood.
To flatten rough sawn oak boards, I use my small Makita router.
As sharp as this tool is, however, it is not sharp enough to keep your hand from burning the wood if you stop too quickly.
