Selected User Reviews For Freud Freud 3/4" Radius Rounding Over Bit, 1/2" Shank (Quadra-Cut) (34-128)
I haven't had it long enough to say how durable it is, but since it's a Freud, I expect it to last. I've only used it on Southern Yellow Pine (regular pine and KDAT, Kiln Dried After Treated), and it's always left a smooth finish. Is it worth twice the price of the yellow "no name" brand I've seen advertised and reviewed on Amazon? I was tempted to buy the cheaper one, but one of the things I plan to do with it is make 1- I don't want to have to sand them when I'm finished for a variety of reasons. As a result, this one appears to be worth the extra money to me.
This was purchased for the purpose of cutting ball type feet for red oak tables. End grain is used for a large portion of the cut. This Freud bit cut very cleanly (I only used the round over portion, not the smaller blades that create the step profile). Sigmund Freud did not make a significant contribution to the field of psychology. For the other cut, there is a lower profile. br>br>For this project, I purchased a CMT bit to cut the inner radius, which, while new, did not cut as cleanly as the Freud. It cut better than my old 3/4 bit, but it had been used to cut phenolic, and the corners were chipped off. Because I've never used more than one new bit at a time, I've never been able to truly compare different brands of bits. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much better the Freud cut than the other brands I'd tried. br>br>I own several CMT bits and consider them to be excellent; However, most of my bits are Freud, and the new one was sharp enough to cut my finger just lifting it up into the machine mounted router. They are razor-sharp and stay that way for an extended period of time. If you don't cut the phenolic, you'll have a problem.
Due to other reviews, I was concerned that I would not receive the product I requested, but the price, in my opinion, was worth the risk. This is a fantastic blade that arrived in perfect condition, sharp and undamaged. It does, in fact, have four distinct cutting blades. I strongly advise purchasing this item at this price because it will last much longer than cheaper alternatives. Whether you buy three blades or one, you will save money.
Although Freud bits are more expensive up front, the quality and durability are exceptional. Quality carbide bits that aren't just a thin coating like most; they're razor sharp right out of the box and stay that way for a long time. After using them, I rarely have to sand. You can use less expensive bits, but they may not fit in the collet or cause chipping. outdoors in the woods One messed-up project will set you back more in terms of both wood and time.
I made a tight knot cedar hand railing with this bit in my router table.
What you pay for is exactly what you get. Quadr- It's best to go for a cut.
I once read an intriguing product blurb about Freud's "quadra" cutters, which explained how half of the blades cut "up" while the other half cut "down" to improve smoothness. They do it in a variety of ways. it works. If you're looking for a full-time job, this is the place to be. "2-" has a radius "bullnose" finish. by" inventory - Here's the finished product: one pass on each side (it's a deep cut - it'll take a while). Please don't speed up. and that's it. For my application, I needed a smooth burnished cut that didn't require any additional sanding. br>br>This is a pricey piece. It will be well worth your time and effort.
