Questions & Answers

For 1/4" radius, I need to cut a straight vertical cut for 3 mm and a half sphere for 3 mm. What would the radius be for a Freud bit with 1/4" diameter?

A 1/4 radius will be rounded off with this bit You can find it at the corner of a flat piece of This will create a vertical step up above the round over if you set the bit deeper. This could work for you depending on what it is you are actually trying to do. This type of router bit would be typically used across the length of boards or along the edge of flat surfaces. impossible to cut a true half sphere with this router bit (or any router bit for that matter).

For 1/4" radius, I need to cut a straight vertical cut for 3 mm and a half sphere for 3 mm. What would the radius be for a Freud bit with 1/4" diameter?

This router bit will follow your workpiece with the bearing after you have created the final shape of your part. You will not need to pattern anything in any way after you have created the final shape of the part. In this case, your work piece will need to be at least 1/4" thick plus 3mm, but this bit will remove only 1/4" of material from the top edge of the

The cut's total width includes the two steps, so what is the overall width?

A diameter of 1" is specified in the specification. Maybe that answers your question, but I am not sure.

I want to round over a panel made of marine grade pvc material. Can I do this with the 1/4 inch version?

The reason for not doing so is inexplicable. As far as I can tell, PVC is soft like wood.

It produces an excellent result
5/5

I needed a rounded over bit with a 1/4" shaft for my Bosch Colt Router, so I changed to this one because A) Freud makes other excellent products that I own, and B) they're not There is only one quad-rotor in the world I have a 1 horsepower Bosch and I wasn't sure if it would be sufficient to operate the cut bit I own. I have no problem. My garage shelves for storage contain some "orange crates" and I finished the ends of the 3/4" plywood at the top end and put the handle holes at each end as well. Getting the bit to conduct well was a breeze, even in production mode. The process of adjusting the wood and securing it took longer than it did to route the wood, even with the clamps I used. Even though we were using plywood, the results were smooth and two passes with some 150 grit sandpaper on a block dealt with most of the splinter problems. I anticipate it will be as useful as most of the other bits, so it is worth it. It's not the cheapest roundover bit, but it will get a lot more use than most others. The question of longevity has not yet been addressed, since there is no evidence to support it. As a rule, I don't build things like crates, but the store where my local LOWES advertised that they had some in stock actually The product I got for $12 is no doubt better than something I would have received for a few bucks less. If they had been in stock, the prices would have been 50 each.

It's easier to sand when the cut is good and clean- The good news is that's happening
5/5

As part of the current undertaking, I'm going to make wooden cabinet pulls with round edges or soft edges. got a set of Ryobi router bits from HomeDepot, and although I sharpened the bit, I was still having significant chipping and burning (to be fair, I paid $70 for a set of 15 Ryobi bits). Freud Quadra bits are made in Italy and have slightly larger diameters than Ryobi bits (you can see the larger diameter of the bearing on the Freud bit, too). As for the Freud bit, it does cut with minimal burning on the surface of wood (mahogany and walnut), but I did cause a similar chipout with it. In the case of a few pieces I needed roundover, the Ryobi bit would have worked, but in the case of the majority, I would have had to hand-sand the tight spots to remove the burning. Though it's not entirely clear that two extra blades would be beneficial for this application. This bit should stay sharp for a long time. It is important to remember that this review comes from a beginner woodworker, so your mileage may vary.

Like butter, it cuts well
4/5

My table top was made from pine 2x4s, and I used this router bit very well to round over the edges. There is a sturdy bearing on the router bit which allows it to roll off the edges smoothly. However, I have not tested it yet on more difficult wood species, so it may change in the future. There's a reason why this product gets a four star rating the price tag is a bit high compared to other generic items. I understand that a "brand name" product must come at a premium price, however the difference in cost seems excessive (pun intended).

There are no issues. I like the way it works. My pick up lasted for about a week and there were no issues. For the price, it wasn't bad.

There are some very good bits here. No matter what the end grain is, they cut very cleanly. They only need a small amount of.

Is very good at what she does
5/5

Most of what I build is outdoor furniture out of Western Red Cedar, which I use 1/4 round over bits for. The rounding over of the edges always happens after the sanding with my balloon sander, so often I don't pay attention to how nice the edges are. You can't tell when your router bit is wearing out by looking at it. As Freud is a pretty good brand, I decided to try one of their bits and was amazed by the results. After sanding, the surface barely needed to be touched.
