The Maroon discs are used to remove light rust, oxides, and coatings from all metals during cleaning and finishing.

Combines with the Roloc disc fastening system's quick "half turn on, half turn off" operation.

Use with Roloc disc pad assembly 05540 (3") for best results.

What kind of toughness do they have?

These are available in a variety of grits, ranging from 240 to 60 grit. They also sell a polishing pad, which I believe is 240 grit.

Which tools are compatible with these discs?

Surface conditioning discs are commonly used with pistol grip type tools, such as the 3MTM Pistol Grip Disc Sanders for Body Repair Part Number 33577, or with a power drill and a drill mounted pad holder.

Are these pads of a specific size? Both 2" and 3" are mentioned in the description. ?

This is the 2" version of the product. The 3" is part 7486.

Are these compatible with the ingersoll rand 3101g 1/4" air die grinder's disc holder?

Although the disc may fit into other brands of roloc holders, there have been reports of the disc failing to fully lock onto the pads. We recommend using a 3M Roloc pad for this reason.

For light use, this is ideal

As others have stated, they do not last long, but they are useful for certain tasks such as gasket preparation, light surface rust removal, and light paint removal. I've used the word "light" several times in this paragraph.

There aren't that many, I don't believe. I've been using them for a long time. Other than that, I'm not sure there are many options. They're easy to use, but they don't last very long; plan on using one for each gasket surface that needs to be cleaned. (i. e. the gasket joins two faces and you're finished).

When using a 1/4 angle air die, I was able to remove the gasket quickly and easily

These are what I used to remove gasket material from an aluminum engine block and cylinder head. When using a 1/4 angle air die to remove the gasket, no soft aluminum was removed. I can't believe I used a razor scraper and gasket remover to work on my previous engine. It's a hundred times easier with these pads.

Great price; I ordered the wrong size but still used them. I used them to get rid of rust on a project I was working on. Although it had a tendency to lose its grip after a short period of time, it was still a good price and did exactly what I needed.

It went above and beyond my expectations

I somehow missed the fact that these were scotch brite discs rather than sand paper discs, but I'll keep them because I can use them. I put a lot of effort into one just to see how long it would last, and it turned out to be more durable than I had anticipated. For home use, they're a bit pricey, but if they last as long as the first one, the investment will be recouped.
