An adapter bushing for a 1/2 inch shaft is included with the wheels I buy. If you don't have any, bushings are available at most local hardware stores. The shafts on a bench grinder should be designed to hold abrasive wheels. If not, you'll need a "motor arbor," which attaches to the shaft(s) of the grinder motor. The majority of bench grinders have two shafts (one on each side). Left and right hand threads are used to make motor arbors, with the L. thread for the motor shaft on the left side, which can be found in most hardware stores. The wheel bushing is held in place by large "fender" washers that come with them. The L. When mounting a wheel on the left side of the motor shaft, the motor arbor is especially important for safety. The L. The abrasive wheel will not spin off the mounting shaft if the thread is not present. Scotch- On the label of Brite wheels, there is also a ROTATION DIRECTION arrow that must be followed. An inexperienced operator is at risk with these wheels. During use, the embedded carbide and other particles may fly away. Eye and face protection are required, and you should never look away from the steering wheel while it is turning. It's also critical to position the work correctly while grinding.
I'd be hesitant to do so; The fibers are quite stiff, and they would most likely cause damage to the would. Distressing wood might be a good idea.
Dimensions of the product 9 x 6. 9 x 4. 4 inches. it is 6. The diameter is 9 inches. It's unclear why it's rated as a 6. 9 x 6. 9 x 4. is supposed to be four 6 inches in diameter, 4 inches thick 9 inch.
Both of the preceding responses are accurate. You say the aluminum is "very oxidized," implying severe corrosion and pitting. Check the depth of any corrosion and pitting before removing it to ensure that the material's strength and integrity aren't jeopardized. Perhaps a Scotch-based cocktail is in order. If the area to be finished is large, use a flat pad instead of a wheel.
Selected User Reviews For Scotch-Brite - MU-WL Multi-Finishing Wheel, Medium Grit (Pack of 1)
For well over a decade, I've been using a lot of Scotchbrite finishing wheels. Fine metal work in stainless steel, bronze, and aluminum, as well as large public sculptures. Until now, my favorite wheel has been the EXL 2A Medium, which I mostly get in 6" x 1/2" sizes. The edge or the face can be used as a 6" sanding disc, making it extremely versatile. Replace sandpaper with them when using a random orbit sander. For a brush or grain finish, however, I needed a wider wheel. 1" is a good size for a good bite while still being wide enough. I'll sometimes stack a few wheels for a very wide surface, but it's more difficult to get good pressure, so it's more for final surfacing to get even broad surfaces. A single 1" wide wheel handles the majority of the middle finishing, can remove some light stock while still providing a nice end finish close to final, and this is as good as it gets in terms of removal and fine finish. After that, I usually use a Red Very Fine Scotchbrite ball wheel, followed by hand pads. I'd like something more aggressive because I still have to use a 7" disc initially on plate, but I haven't found one in a Scotchbrite wheel yet.
Consider a 1 inch thick, extra stiff Scotch Brite pad that mounts on a buffer or grinder and is round - That's exactly what you're going to get. The wheel is a lot denser than a Scotch Brite pad in the kitchen. It works well for removing rust, paint, and the first steps in metal polishing. It does not necessitate the use of abrasives for polishing - Abrasives are pre-installed in the wheel. br>br>I noticed a painted direction arrow on one side, indicating that it is only designed to go one way - Of course, you must turn it over as necessary to ensure proper rotation. br>br>The wheel has a 1 inch mandrel hole. An adapter will be required if your buffer or grinder has a smaller shaft. To fit my grinder, I used a stack of 1 inch OD by 1/2 inch ID nylon spacers purchased from Home Depot.
This is an excellent wheel for deburring and removing sharp corners from rough cuts. It polishes well as well, but only to a brushed finish. On softer grades of aluminum, it can be aggressive.
Yes, it does a great job of removing deep tarnish from tools without removing a lot of metal. If you're going to buff, start here! My older tools are looking fantastic again.
This is the second category of Scotch whisky. I bought two Brite wheels and I really like them. Out of the eight grinding/finishing wheels, this is one of my favorites.
In my auto restoration business, I've been using these wheels for many years. This one is a little more difficult than the others I've done in the past. Be aware.
As I previously stated, it receives an excellent rating from me!.
It's a bit on the soft side when it comes to deburring. On steel, it will quickly burn up, but on aluminum, I really like it.
