They're rated for wire with a 50mm squared area and a gauge of 0 AWG (1/0). I've cut 4 gauge stranded copper with mine, and they're quite sharp and cut right through it. They're only for copper and aluminum, not steel, so keep that in mind.
I wouldn't recommend this unless the cables are copper. These are only intended for copper wire. It can be as thick as 1/2 inch. If you need to cut thin cables or even bolts up to 1/4 inch thick, I recommend getting a set of knipex mini bolt cutters. That's a lot better.
If you can cut RG 11 short wire cable to 1/0 AWG, you're good to go.

I'm a commercial/industrial electrician, and I've been looking for a better tool to cut AND strip aluminum clad MC/BX cable recently. I've always assumed that there must be a better tool for the job than diagonal cutters, which require a great deal of force and leverage to cut through MC. I had high expectations for the Klein BX cutting shears (1104), and while they perform admirably, they don't always cut all the way through the cable. Knipex cutters shear through the cable much more cleanly. Despite the fact that these Knipex cable shears are only about 6 inches long, they cut with far less effort than an 8-inch pair of diagonal cutters. After a long day of use, this puts far less strain on the user's wrist. The cutters' nose can also get under the MC's jacket to strip off the outer aluminum casing and leave a nice clean edge without nicking the conductors underneath. Overall, this is an excellent tool for roughing out MC and BX. in jobs. Cutting steel clad MC/BX cable will almost certainly destroy the tool, so be aware of what you're doing. Of course, they're also great at cutting small to medium-sized copper and aluminum conductors the way they're supposed to be cut. Knipex cable shears are a versatile tool that is also compact and lightweight, and they have earned a permanent spot in my tool pouch. These cutters, as well as Knipex as a brand, come highly recommended; in my opinion, they make the best hand tools available.
This wire cutter appears to be more durable than my 20-year-old wire cutter. year- It's an old pair (that was destroyed in an accident) and it's razor sharp. With these cutters, I can easily cut copper wire up to 4 AWG and 2 AWG. handedly. Knipex has earned my trust and I expect nothing but the best from them, and these cutters are no exception. Cutters that are very impressive. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for a tool that I know I'll use for a long time, and these cutters are of that caliber. Perfect.
I have other wire cutters and cable shears, but I needed something that could deal with larger gauge wire and cables. Knipex is my go-to app these days. I purchased these in order to brand them. And they're fantastic. I've had no problems with these at all, and they've made my job a lot easier. I had to replace the main breaker in my house recently. While the utility technician was pulling the meter and opening things up, I needed to replace the breaker. The old breaker had a wire welded into it that would not come out. "Oh, those are too," the utility technician said as I pulled out these shears to cut the wire. "And then he came to a halt as I effortlessly cut through the wire with one hand, (and then he took them to inspect them. ).
This was my first purchase of a KNIPEX branded tool, and I will undoubtedly be purchasing more in the future. My go-to method is usually Wera, Wiha, and Snap-on are some of the tool brands to look out for. On or Channellock is the option. I bought these to make LMR-cutting machines. It's a 400-style cable, and it's pushing the cable shears to their limits. Even so, I'm so impressed with these that I'm going to order the next size up. The tolerances and grind on the cutting edges are outstanding, the handles are comfortable and well-formed, and I don't see these leaving my toolbox anytime soon. It's a real pleasure to work with these tools, which are clearly made by a company that understands what they're doing and who their target market is. KNIPEX, you've done a fantastic job.
Knipex quality is legendary, but keep in mind that these are only 6" shears with no mechanical advantage, as other reviewers have pointed out. I read reviews that said these shears could cut 1 AWG, but I just tested them on 2 AWG THHN and found it difficult to cut, even though I have fairly strong hands. I only need to make a couple of cuts for a project, so these will go in the toolbox, but if I had it to do over, I would invest in shears that are a little larger and perhaps have some mechanical advantage.
These cable shears are great for getting into tight spaces; I use them to cut zip ties on wiring harnesses because they have beak-like ends that allow me to cut the zip tie without cutting any wires. They have a razor-sharp edge and keep it for a long time. I use them almost every day as a diesel mechanic, and they last a long time.
It took some time for me to get used to opening it completely. It's what I use to cut multiple 18-inch sheets of paper. Jacketed cable with a 16 gauge core and two conductors In a construction environment, there are four conductors. It can easily cut through four four-conductor cables, but it is limited in that regard. br>I had to have it after borrowing it from a coworker! He's been using it for quite some time now. br>It's a fantastic program!.
Journeyman electricianbr>For its size, it cuts 2/0 aluminum wire with ease and cuts AC/MC shell without nicking the wire. br>There's no need to carry dykes or a roto-tiller. splitter. br>As usual, Knipex comes out on top. This is a fantastic tool from a fantastic company.
