Questions & Answers

Is it possible to switch out the blade?

"Life Long Blade," according to the specifications. I've had mine for over three years and it's still going strong.

Will this only remove the outer jacket from shielded Cat5 while leaving the inner foil shield and drain wire in tact?

Although I don't have any shielded ethernet cables to test, this tool strips the conductors without causing any damage. If the shielded cable's outer jacket is the same thickness as the shielded cable's outer jacket, you should be fine. Just be careful not to squeeze the jaws too hard.

Will it be possible to cut a cat 6 shielded cable without causing any damage to the shield?

Yes - If properly used and with a sharp blade. When I say properly, I'm referring to the following procedure: You can use the cutter to pull the sliced jacket off the end, but I find that removing the cutter and slipping the jacket off with a fingernail removes the sideways pulling load on the blade (which isn't needed anyway if doing it with a fingernail). I've stripped hundreds of ends with it, and it's still going strong. I will say that if you use low-cost CAT5/6, the jacket may be thinner, so there's no way of knowing if several full rotations will cut too deeply into the shield foil.

I have some Cat5e Riser that is a little smaller in diameter? Do you believe this is feasible?

It will work fine with riser cable but not with plenum cable.

It's simple to use and it gets the job done
5/5

In conclusion, there is a hint. All you have to do is twirl and you're done! Pulling the wire insulation off with the tool is not a good idea. This, or any other stripper of this type, will be damaged prematurely if you do that. Clamp is now open. Cover the cable with something. Allow the door to close on its own. Score insulation by twirling twice. Remove the stripper from the scene. Use your hands to remove the scored insulation/jacket, not this tool.

If you're careful, it'll work fine
4/5

This stripper is not adjustable, which is fine; it simply means that you must exercise caution when using it. br>Give it one turn, and it will score the jacket deeply enough for you to flex it slightly and pull it away from the cable (at least, that's how it works with my cable). If you give it more than one turn, it will cut through the jacket and score the conductors beneath it, exposing the conductor as you bend the wires. br>br>An adjustable stop would prevent this, but it would necessitate some trial and error for each cable type, which would raise the price. br>br>This works fine as long as you only use ONE TURN of the stripper.

This small tool has left me very impressed
5/5

It's something I use. This small tool has left me very impressed. On Cat 5, I use it every day. I've discovered that all it takes is one full turn to remove the jacket. If you go over that, you risk nicking wires. I have yet to nick a single wire doing just one turn, and because this is my first time using the tool, I have been double-checking my cables after each cut. There haven't been any problems. br>br>I experimented with this tool on a thick Belden 10-inch cable out of curiosity. I tried using a conductor cable, but it didn't work. Too thick, and the jacket on that stuff is extremely stiff, to be honest.

When working with CAT5/6, this is a must-have
5/5

You don't value your time if you don't use one of these; the title says it all. Any other method of stripping CAT5/6 is a waste of time; I'm not claiming that this is the best tool of its kind available, but I don't see how it could be better. It's something I use at work and have at home. Advantages: br>br> br>Big time saverbr>Extremely simple to usebr>br>Cons: br>It isn't free; the only way it could be better is if it were.

It's the most user-friendly tool! We have a wide range of tools available to us at work
5/5

This was purchased to make custom CAT6 cables of various lengths. We have several tools for cutting the outer insulation, but this one is the fastest and cleanest of them all. br> It's easy to do, but it's very effective!! It is well worth the money!.

This is my second CAT5/6 stripping tool, and I'm very pleased with it
5/5

For years, I've been stripping CAT5/CAT6 wiring with dedicated stripping tools, and there's no better way! You're probably wasting time if you're not using a single-purpose tool, like the one I have.

Excellent through thin CAT6A, but not for thicker CAT6A
5/5

It worked great on everything except some CAT6A patch cables I was 'destroying' to practice terminating, but it didn't even scratch the vertical cat6a STP cable I bought. Even though it's advertised as a CAT5E stripper, it's still a five-star product. I even broke the little cable holder tab inside in the hopes of getting the blade closer to the jacket, but it didn't work. The other cables, thankfully, are still stripped fine. Hopefully, future models will be adjustable or capable of cutting the thicker CAT6A, because it's the best I've ever used in terms of feel and handling.
