As an electronics tech and ham radio operator, I have been doing my own electrical work for a long time. They had one of these a long time ago and it was good, but this is even better. The ability to trim and cut solid and stranded wire of all sizes is essential to my workflow. It also has better crimping capabilities than the old model and better than any other multitool I have used in the past. The stripper can do everything except blow your nose, and the crimper can be better. If you spend more, you can get a separate stripper. However, this is a wicked combination. The cable cutter of the unit wastes no space, and the machine has a large cutter that will cut bigger stranded cables than 10/3. I have larger dikes that can handle this type of cable, but they cannot handle rubber-sided large cables. A pinching sensation is all it does. I used to have to get out my saber saw with a steel bit and cut it before. No problems with cutting that cable and it cut it in one pass. As well as stripping, it works well. Graphing, designing, and building electronic and electrical equipment is what I've been doing for over 20 years. The model came to my attention after an electrician told me about it. If I were to buy it again, I would (yes) if I were to recommend it to a friend, I would (yes) if I knew of a better one, I would (I haven't.
The tool I use most often to strip wires is this one. The strippers like these are better than those with pliers.
There are versions available for purchase in stores. Despite all wire stripping tools being fairly efficient, the cutter, bolt cutter, crimper and grips are well designed and powerful.
It works well for the most part. While stripping stranded wire it did not always completely cut through the sheath and I had to supplement it with a box cutter knife or turn the tool around so the angle was different and keep twisting under the wire to get a clean cut. It made the job take a lot longer than it should have. However, it ended up being helpful nonetheless.
The fact that it has the AWG sizes I need without me having to carry two strippers is great. My only complaint is that the blade on the backside is too thick and I would prefer a different tip.
The quality check station must be having a bad day. Taking it back was a good decision.
