Copper would probably be easily cut by them- Wire made from 304 stainless steel is softer that wire made from 316 stainless steel-- However, they would crush the part of the tubing of which you are cutting. If you really want to get the job done cleanly, you should hire a pipe cutter. For $15 or less you can find one You can find them at home centers for $20.
As of yet, we haven't cut the 12 using this cable cutter. You may be able to make it work with a high tensile sire of 5 gauge.

These are the ones I purchased because the product description stated they will cut aircraft cable that is 5/16" in diameter. My job is construction and I am an extremely strong gripper, but even I cannot cut 5/16 cable without a cheater pipe. I do not want to invest in two sets of cutters that are rarely used, but I guess I will because it does not make sense to have the items returned. Although the cutters do seem well-made, it is difficult to find anything else to criticize about them. But if you are looking for a cutter that can cut 5/16 or larger, you should.
Fig. 3. Cable. The 3/16" stainless steel cable was cut smoothly in just 3 seconds when good pressure was applied to the handles. A nice clean finish on the The steel blades have excellent hardening (probably 100 cuts per sharpening). Blades can be resharpened after being disassembled and then gently reground using a bench grinder with a fine-grit wheel of decent quality. I couldn't have asked for a faster solution to.
This cutter is advertised as 18 inches in length but it is actually 16 inches in length. Cuts through smaller cable quite well, but its shorter length means it won't provide you with as much leverage as it would.
I am satisfied with the results. These are a bit difficult to cut because the cables are thick. It did not work so well when I tried a slow pressure. Trying to cut the cable too fast, the cable popped in half. There were no issues with the cut.
During my wife's attempt to remove a cable seal from the back of a shipping container, I used this device for the first time. In order to complete the task, several attempts were made and another individual assisted me. In the video, it appeared to work, but it did not.
A brand new cable cutter will cut 1/8" thick solid core stainless steel cable easily. The cutting edge of one blade wears with 50 cuts, but the other cutting blade remains This knife does not cut as easy as a brand new knife.
There is an enormous dullness in the cutting edge. Cutting the cable as described does not occur. There was either a problem with the first pair received or the product was just awful. Money is a precious commodity, don't waste it.
There is a heavy duty component to it, not a simple device. In the event that you do not understand how it works, do not use.
