It seems I have been cutting synthetic rope and webbing with a knife and scissors and sealing it with a lighter for as long as I can remember. There's no need to do that It came up and I grabbed it! It's a white Hercules 60 benchtop hot knife! I was delighted to find that it works well. Because I've never owned a hot knife, handheld, bench mounted, or anything other than a small air knife, I was not sure if I needed 60 W. Generally, I do not need to cut thicker rope, and in the very rare event that I do, I can still perform the cutting and sealing manually. Despite the fact that this hot knife is on the small side of midsize, it really does the trick for anything on the "reasonable" side. it could be anywhere from three eighths to five quarters of an inch. I tested it with waxed polyester cord, synthetic bank line, nylon webbing, and paracord and it worked perfectly for the first three. reason it didn't cut the paracord well is that I only had a survival type (with the inner wire) on hand. It would have cut a normal kind of cord, though. The nylon power cord worked just fine. It was easy to use with no blobs or mess. The webbing was cut perfectly. It arrived in good condition.
