For working with brake and shift cables, you need this kind of cable cutter. Being that I am not a professional and do not make my living from this, the price was an important consideration. We received this tool in a timely manner, and it was packaged and shipped well. I presume that was to prevent corrosion at the packaging stage because it was rather oily when I got it. There is no big deal here. This shade tree mechanic appears to be a good value.
I just don't see the point of that. When I first used it to cut a bike brake cable, it showed signs of being used, but it cut well after awhile, but now when I try it again it doesn't cut through a brake cable without 2 passes The blade is unable to cut through 5 frayed strands. Not able to cut through cable housing with a regular blade, save your time and spend the extra money on a bit better.
Despite how well they cut cables, I was still pleasantly surprised. The cable I cut was rusted some was clean, some was dirty and some I cut. I work on bikes a lot, so I've cut maybe 20 or so cables. In addition to cutting cable housing, it also handles other cable related tasks. A piece of metal needs to be clipped occasionally out of the way, but it's no big deal and this cutter handles it with no issues. In respect of questions 11&12
According to me, I have already gotten my money's worth from the $99 I paid. Probably spent 16 or so dollars at Ace hardware on a new cable cutter. In the short time that I have owned it, it has never cut as well as these and has worn significantly because of it. I like how good the value is and how good the quality is.
Home Depot had sold me 3 cutters that didn't work and were useless. I returned all three. This cutter worked perfectly and I was able to solve my cable cutting problem for less than home depot charged.
To cut very small cable, I used to use a very small saw. The cable does not fray when cut and the cut is clean.
This is as it should be! This is a very sharp knife that doesn't leave splinters.
The cutter cuts really smoothly, no resistance when used with Shimano lines and The purchase has been a great experience.
The tool you need to fix your bike's brakes.
