Questions & Answers

Is this strong enough to cut standard fence wire?

I'm in the middle of tearing down several hundred feet of horse fence, and it's working flawlessly, even with the tough end gauge. This is the first good fence-cutting tool I've come across in more than 30 years. I'm not sure why this hasn't been realized for years!

Will these be able to cut through wire shelves from Closetmaid?

Probably. The diameter of the wireshelf and the material it is made of will determine how long it will last. With these, I was able to cut thousands of 12ga hardened steel jump rings with minimal hand strain. I'm assuming closetmaid is a low-cost home closet shelf, so the difference between cutting air and low-cost Walmart shelving is unlikely to be noticeable.

Is it possible to use a gloved hand to operate the lock?

With my gloved hand, I was able to open the lock.

Is there a user manual in the box (mine didn't have one, and the box appeared to be opened)?

This item will be delivered without an instruction manual. Knipex retail boxes are notorious for being flimsy and prone to damage during shipping. They appear to have been opened previously as a result of this.

These were purchased for a specific reason
5/5

A fellow on a nearby boat drove a large hook into his hand while fishing 50 miles out in the Atlantic recently, and he was ready to drive the hook through, but none of the boats out there had a tool strong enough to cut the hook's barbed point off and allow it to be backed out. They were on their way back to their apartment - I'm sure it was a torturous two-year period for you. The injured crew member will be on a three-hour trip. That night, I did some research and placed an order for a Knipex cutter. When it arrived, I put it through its paces with our biggest hooks and coated it in anti-static. Put the corrosion spray in a vacuum-sealed container. I kept it in a sealed bag in the emergency kit on my boat. I hope I never have to use it, but if we do, I'm confident this cutter will be up to the task.

Chainmail made of 320ksi high carbon steel
5/5

In my spare time, I make chainmail out of high carbon steel piano wire and a. The diameter is 071". Bolt cutters are typically too large to fit into the coil when cutting it into rings when I make coils, which are only about 5/16" in diameter. My first thought was to use a Dremel with a cutting disc, but the wire is so strong that it would quickly eat through the discs (not to mention the mess the disintegrating disc would leave), and cutting a full coil would take an eternity. I tried a few different high leverage cutters (all from China), but the piano wire indented them all. That's how I came across these while looking around. Yes, it is pricey. But, because of the high rating, I decided to give them a shot, and I'm glad I did. From now on, KNIPEX will have a loyal customer! I'm already considering purchasing additional KNIPEX items. These tools are so well-made and durable that they are well worth the money. They transport me back to my Grandpa's workshop, where he had all of his old but reliable tools from the 1940s and 1950s, all of which were made of good ole American steel. Unfortunately, quality is no longer valued in the American marketplace. THANK GOD, the Germans know what they're talking about! It was well worth the money. Rather than ripping through ten cheap tools, do yourself a favor and invest in one good tool. You'll end up saving money!.

and the ability to cut are incredible
5/5

Chain maille is a great way to use this. This is my second pair, and the first one I purchased cut 50,000 rings before I could no longer use it. I cut 22,000 16g 5/16'' galvanized rings, and I'm not sure how many Stainless Steel rings of various sizes, but I did go through two large rolls of 12g SS, one roll of 16g SS, and some other miscellaneous cutting of old fence and wire to send to the scrap yard. The spring, handles, and cutting ability are incredible. Chain maille is a great way to use this. Take a look at their YouTube channel to see what they're capable of.

VERY HIGH QUALITY! I've been eyeing these Knipex bolt cutters for a while, but the price has always seemed a little out of reach
5/5

I made the decision to buy one, and the first thing I noticed was the high quality! Even when you try to open the lock with a slight flick of your thumb or index finger, it remains locked. I have large hands, and the comfort grip handles provide a firm grip. They're built to last, with no side movement and a smooth finish free of sharp edges. The cutting edges are perfectly aligned, and they cut like a champ! If properly used and cared for, this tool will last a lifetime. Now that I have them, I honestly believe I would have paid significantly more for them. These bolt cutters come highly recommended by me to anyone in need of such a tool.

Created with Everything that other reviewers have said about the Knipex Cobolt Cutter "with the spring" is true
5/5

I've used them for fencing in outback Australia and recently purchased a pair on Amazon. This is something that other reviews haven't mentioned. When you have to cut high tensile / thick gauge wire or something similar repeatedly throughout the day, your hand, wrist, and forearm are put to the test. Because this is difficult to maintain, the elbow will be at risk of injury. Sure, some men gain additional strength, but arthritis eventually causes them pain. Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) are common as a result of this type of work, and they are extremely painful. Knipex Cobolt Cutters help prevent RSI and, according to my friend, are virtually indestructible. They're a tough bunch, and he should be aware of that. He's a retired electrician who now owns a 30,000-acre cattle, sheep, and grain producing station in outback Australia. He has RSI in his right elbow from years of using a screw driver. I highly recommend Knipex Cobolt Cutter and make sure you get the model with the spring if you want a pair of cutters that make cutting easy and will last longer than you!.

What a brilliant idea! These are absolutely incredible and well worth the money
5/5

I used 5' high horse mesh to fence the perimeter (and some of the cross fencing). Every time you attach an end, that's 16 strands of wire to twist or crimp. . . and because roll lengths are only 200', that's 32 strands to twist or crimp every time you splice two rolls of wire together. br>br>Even after all of that, these cutters are still sharp and easy to use. br>br>And by that, I mean they're EXTREMELY simple to cut with. I'm the type of person who doesn't understand why some wire "cutters" are labeled as cutters when they require more strength than I physically have to cut with them, in fact, more strength than I have to even make a dent in the wire; these cutters, on the other hand, are so simple to use that I can snip wire all day without breaking a sweat - There will be no more tendon bruising or wrist exhaustion! A wonderful present for the home-improvement wife or mother, or for the arthritis-suffering grandfather. br>br>Now if they could just make them for more tools.

Very good quality
5/5

This set of cutters is one of my favorites. For years, I cut 14ga chain mail rings with el cheapo 8" mini bolt cutters, which I had to replace nearly every year. I've cut over 2,000 rings with these so far, and I've noticed a better edge finish, less effort, no visible blade wear, and my wrist doesn't feel like it's been stomped on by a 300-pound gorilla. I'm sure I would have been on the same pair if I had the foresight to invest in these from the start, and it would have cost me the same in the end. If you're new to chain mail, these are a must-have to keep your wrist from sounding like a cement mixer.
