Questions & Answers

So you're using this as a tent stake, and you're forced to urinate. Do you take it out of its tent stake and use it to dig a hole?

I don't use it as a stake; instead, I use it to dig holes.

What is the weight of the Vargo titanium dig dig tool?

25 oz

Is there a sleeve or something to protect the serrated edges of the backpack's pocket?

It comes with a small, non-durable stuff sack, similar to what you'd get with sunglasses, etc. It's not much, but it's enough to fit into your pack without ripping anything and get it out. It is effective in the field.

Is it possible to pack this in your carry-on luggage?

To be sure; That shouldn't be a problem in the least. I wouldn't take the chance of trying to cram everything into a carry-on bag. on the other hand

It's light, works well on roots, and accomplishes the task at hand
5/5

This, as well as the TheTentLab New Improved Deuce(R) Ultralight Backpacking Potty Trowel, were purchased. This is the one I'm keeping. I live in the northwest, where there are roots and dense soil. This trowel was capable of sawing through 1/2-inch tree roots as well as a variety of bush roots. It is narrower, so it should be faster, but the other trowel can't pry some of the soil or handle the roots as well, so you'll have to try another location. As a result, it's quicker in this area. Others may not provide the same level of comfort as the folded Titanium lips. This also aids in obtaining leverage without the use of gloves. It's definitely one to keep! br>br>Another bit of feedback: Still a keeper, and I should mention that the teeth aren't sharp, so I've never had any wear on my gear as a result of them, but they do cut through roots, just not as well as a hand saw. br>br>In my opinion, heavily rounding the edges where the rope/cord will pass for the tent ankor feature would make it a little more comfortable. This applies to both the inner groove where the rope will rest and the outer edges where your hands will come into contact while digging.

It's a little lighter than the box it came in, but it's still a powerful weapon
5/5

This was purchased to replace an old plastic MSR trowel (which I also recommend) that had served me well but had developed a small crack and weighed 82 grams (2. 89 oz). This one is made of titanium and weighs 33 pounds. 1 gram = 4 grams On my scale, it weighed 17 ounces (a little less than Vargo claimed). (As noted in other reviews). Although there isn't a significant weight reduction over my old trowel, I believe it is still worthwhile. It's a lot more durable than I expected, and the serrated edges will easily cut through roots. I also plan on replacing a tent stake with it, which will save me another 12 grams. I usually keep my trowel in one of my pack's outside pockets, and I'm worried about the serrations damaging it. To avoid this, I'll keep it in the plastic sleeve it came in or store it in a strategic location in my pack. This is a fantastic addition to my backpacking gear. Vargo, I appreciate your help. Amazon!.

Poop like a pro in the woods! I weighed 32 grams with this
5/5

It is extremely durable, and no matter how hard you press on it, it will not bend or fail. I saved the plastic sheet/pouch it came in and wrapped the tool in a single layer of ducktape while it was in my bag to help prevent the teeth from scratching anything in my bag, as other reviewers mentioned. I can see how the edges of the handle could dig into your hands if you wrapped your fingers around it tightly. Wrapping it in paracord, using a cloth, or wearing a glove, as mentioned by others, could help protect your hands.

It performs admirably, easily coping with both stones and roots
4/5

This trowel is fantastic at prying stones out of the ground and cutting through roots. Because the serrations are sharp, you'll want to carry it in a sturdy sack to avoid damaging other items. br>br>Only 4 stars because the handle's end is sharp and digs into the heel of your hand when you're pushing the trowl into the ground. I believe that better finishing/rolling of the material at the handle's end could solve this problem. br>br>I have paracord wrapped around the handle of my trowel - If I'm carrying paracord, I might as well use it to make the handle more comfortable - The sides of the handle are perfectly comfortable when the trowel is used without the cord. Wrapping isn't required; it's simply a personal preference.

I'm blown away
5/5

This trowel has left a lasting impression on me. I was able to dig a cat hole quickly in an area just below where I had a tree removed just the week before, so there were a lot of roots. My previous trowel was plastic and broke the first time I tried to use it, but this one cut through the clay and roots with little effort. This is a well-designed tool, and if I lost it, I would purchase it again.

Trowel that can be used for a variety of tasks
5/5

This trowel far exceeded my expectations. Following the fires in the Sierras, I used it this past weekend on a backpacking trip in the area. As a result, it had no trouble digging through extremely dry, hard dirt, and it also cut through roots with ease. When one of my stakes didn't quite cut it due to all the dry dirt, the dig dig did a fantastic job of staking my tent as well. This was made possible by the notch at the top for guy lines. This is a fantastic piece of gear. I would strongly suggest it.

A Full-Size Ultralight a shovel for service This is a small trowel that, thanks to its Hori Hori design, can be used for three different tasks on the trail
5/5

tent stake (soft soil), hand-digging cat holes, and any other trench work, particularly when converting it to use as a long-term storage container. shovel with a handle Find a sturdy, relatively straight tree branch, bring a brass screw, and secure it to the branch by turning it through the hole at the handle end. This makes it a full-service spade that is ultralight. Because of its thin shape, it takes longer to work with, but it does the job. The teeth will work on roots, and the folded titanium will be strong enough to move hard soil.

Light as a feather
4/5

I can't wait to put it to the test, despite some cosmetic flaws and a dent. Because I'm going to beat it up anyway, I'm more concerned about the vendor's willingness to send a messed-up product than I am about the product's condition. I went to REI to get some other things, and the ones they have in stock appear to be in excellent condition. Aside from that, I like how it has a rounded grip and fits well in my hands. I won't have to worry about the teeth on the sides cutting up anything in my bag because they're not sharp, but I'm curious to see how well it cuts through roots. br>br>I'll update after my tripbr>br>UPDATEbr>Very durable and digs easily. br>br>UPDATEbr> Cutting through roots still takes some effort, but it gets the job done, and I'm satisfied. I haven't used it as a back-up stake yet.
